Android Security Center Browser Redirect

What does the term ‘browser hijacker’ stand for?

Obviously, the words mean that this program ‘hijacks’ your browser by imposing its own settings. But besides that, there’s much more to a piece like Android Security Center “Virus”. These programs modify your browser and certain system settings with the intention of exposing you to large quantities of online ads, hence all the popups, banners and page redirects. For this purpose they have even been known to monitor your browsing patterns and use them to optimize the display of their ads on each separate device. And all of this is done in the name of profit, as the developers earn revenue based on the number of times one ad or another has been viewed/clicked on.

But are these programs dangerous? Well, the short answer is no, they certainly don’t compare to viruses and malicious software like Trojans and ransomware. But even though they aren’t viruses, programs like Android Security Center “Virus” are still seen as undesirable and best avoided. This is because of the annoyance they cause, the lack of functionality and just the amount of system resources they take up without any justification for the user. In addition, there’s no telling how safe the said page redirects are and what type of websites they could potentially land you on.

So, once you have removed Android Security Center “Virus”, you can also make sure that you don’t get infected again. Keep in mind that browser hijackers for Android devices are typically distributed as integral components of other apps. Therefore, it would be a good idea to avoid downloading apps from third party sources and only keeping to the Google Play Store. But to be completely safe, it wouldn’t hurt to do some research prior to downloading a certain app as well.
