Dear user,

What we can offer you to help you get rid of this software is our removal guide at the end of the following article. Follow the instructions carefully and you should not have any problems. What’s more, our article contains general details about browser hijacker and Attirer Page and some prevention tips.

Good luck!

General information on browser hijacker

 browser hijacker-based programs are among the most commonly spread types of software that have ever been created. Such programs usually tend to display numerous ads in many various shapes and forms. Also, they may generate ads within any browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox…. etc.) and within certain applications as well. The said browser hijacker-like apps tend to infiltrate your system from within software bundles.

A software bundle is a term used for pieces of free software that are usually mixed with other software, most often browser hijacker, in order to get distributed more easily and earn additional profits for its creators.
At the very moment you download and start the installation process of such a free program, the browser hijacker inside might get incorporated in your system as well, if you are not especially careful.
In case you still want to use the given free software, however, and are unwilling to install browser hijacker on your system, always try to:

  1.  Use only the Manual / Customized/ Advanced feature of the installation wizard in order to be aware of what you are inviting to become a part of your PC;
  2. Never forget to pay attention to the End-User License Agreements of any newly downloaded program in the installation process;

What makes developers create free bundles and include browser hijacker in them?

browser hijacker has been created with the sole purpose to generate revenue for its developers. And as you might expect, they use it exactly for that – to make money. browser hijacker-like programs as marketing tools function closely according to the PPC {pay per click} scheme. Basically, that means that the more advertisements get displayed and clicked on, the more money their programmers earn.

Are there any potential unpleasant side effects of being infected with browser hijacker?

The possible negative consequences of browser hijacker as a whole are usually limited to a few aspects:

  1. The potential threat that such software may represent to your system may vary in accordance with what browser hijacker has been programmed to perform. Generally, the possible annoyance it may cause to most of the users is what makes them want to remove it. The constant stream of banners, pop-ups and other ads is irritating enough on its own.
  2. Some advertisements may redirect you to webpages that promote suspicious software or other possibly harmful websites that may infect your system with viruses like Trojans or Ransomware. Though cases like this are very rare, you should still be careful!
  3. Some browser hijacker-based programs may tend to keep track of your activities while you’re browsing the Internet. Such “research” helps them guess what services and products you might be in need of. If this is the case, you will receive only ads that fit your recent search requests including only whatever you are interested in.

What does Attirer Page do? How does it affect your system?

Attirer Page is indeed a good example of what browser hijacker represents in general.  It may strive to match the ads it shows with your preferences and it may sell the data about your surfing experience to 3rd parties.
Is Attirer Page really dangerous?
Attirer Page is unable to steal sensitive information like account credentials, banking details or passwords. Moreover, it is NOT able to cause the destruction of data or the encryption of any files in any way, like ransomware would, for example. Also, it is important to mention that it DOESN’T self-replicate (what real viruses strive to do).

The nature of this browser hijacker is mostly harmless but still might be regarded as extremely annoying.
