How are ads getting displayed on your screen?

The online advertising industry is spewing thousands of advertisements every day. In order to be seen by the online users, these ads are displayed through software known as browser hijacker. This browser hijacker is specially developed to generate pop-ups, banners, links, notifications and boxes on users’ screens during their web searches. It is also used to generate income to its developers through the Pay-Per-Click method. However, this activity is often undesired by the users and may cause some irritation and browsing related disturbance.

Is a browser hijacker a security risk?

If we have to compare it to, let’s say, a Trojan horse infection or Ransomware, such software is classified as not so risky. Despite that it’s usually referred to as a virus, browser hijacker is really nowhere near viruses as a security risk. It cannot encrypt your data as Ransomware does, nor can it destroy your files. However, it may be a source of irritation, especially when it’s constantly disturbing one’s browsing activity with undesired messages that are not easily stoppable.

How does the AttirerPage “Virus” behave?

As a browser hijacker, the AttirerPage “Virus”  is a piece of software that keeps track of search queries from user’s browsing activity and displays targeted ads as a result. You may recognize that the ads are generated by this program, because they usually contain a small text like “ads displayed by AttirerPage ” somewhere on the message. Along with the ads invasion, the program may monitor the browsing history, keep track of recent searches and last visited websites, or collect other browsing related data. The collected information is then sent to the developers, who may use it to optimize the ads relevancy based on your searches. This may sound like a useful thing. At least you may get some ads that are really relevant to your interests. However, some users may consider this activity as a violation of their privacy, and therefore they may want to remove the browser hijacker.

How AttirerPage arrived on your PC?

browser hijacker most probably arrived bundled inside the installation of a free program you have recently installed. Maybe you skipped reading the EULA when installing the free software. And this is probably how you ended up not knowing that you got browser hijacker along with it. In fact, users have the option to enable or disable browser hijacker from getting installed on their PC. However, they may not know where that option is. In the next lines, you will find out.

How to save yourself from getting browser hijacker?

Paying attention when surfing the web is a crucial habit related to your online safety. Therefore, when you come across unknown websites, open-sharing platforms, free software installations, torrents, pop-up ads or links, you should be really careful what content you interact with. Do have a close check at all the software you decide to download and install on your PC. Reading the EULA before you press the OK button would give you a good idea about what you are installing. When running the wizard, instead of going for the quick installation, click the advanced options to see if there is browser hijacker included alongside your program. If you cannot recognize the developer, or you don’t really need the functionality the browser hijacker provides, unchecking the box will stop it from getting installed on your PC.

Now that you know what you are dealing with, below is a removal guide you can proceed with, in case you want to uninstall AttirerPage from your machine. The instructions are very detailed, however, some of the steps require interaction with system files. In case you are not sure you can manage with the manual steps, a removal tool can help you clean this browser hijacker with the click of a button. Both ways may help you get rid of this application and save you from the ads invasion on your screen.
