This page aims to help you remove Caleb for free. Our instructions also cover how any Caleb file can be recovered.
Caleb is a new cryptovirus of the Ransomware kind. When Caleb infects your computer, your files will become inaccessible thanks to a secret encryption that gets placed on them.
Having a close encounter with a Ransomware of this type is not a good thing. The people who become victims of this form of malware are usually deprived of the access to their personal digital information, and are asked to pay a ransom to some anonymous hackers in order to reverse the encryption. In some of the cases, the criminals who control the Ransomware virus may claim that they are legal authorities in order to scare the unsuspecting web users, and make them believe they have committed some kind of an illegal action, for which they have to pay a fine. Usually, such threats encrypt the victim’s most needed documents, videos, audios, images, and other data which is likely important to the user. A recent infection of this category is spreading around the interned under the name of Caleb. This threat works as a cryptovirus that secretly applies a complex file encryption code to all the data stored on the compromised computer. The virus then generates a ransom-demanding message, and asks for some money to make the locked files available again. Immediately after the attack, the hackers provide concrete ransom payment instructions, and threaten that if no payment is made on time, the files will remain inaccessible forever.
In case you are reading this post because such a message has welcomed you on your screen, you may feel shocked and harassed. Fortunately, as you’re on this page, we suppose you’re most probably looking for an appropriate solution that can assist you with avoiding the ransom payment. That’s why we’ve prepared some alternative methods of malware removal and file recover down below, that don’t involve giving the hackers your money. What you will find in the next paragraphs is a step-by-step removal guide that you can use to remove Caleb, and some file-recovery suggestions that may potentially help you retrieve some of the encrypted documents through system backups.
The Caleb virus
The Caleb virus is an infection that operates in a very stealthy fashion. It may be impossible to detect the Caleb virus on time, as it rarely triggers any infection symptoms.
In general, the Ransomware infections are very different from most other virus types. They rarely attempt to damage anything in the system or monitor the user’s activities, unlike infections such as Spyware, Trojans, or Rootkits. Instead, they utilize the generally harmless file encryption method as a way to cause harm, and extort money from their victims. At the same time, the file encryption is one of the most reliable, and unbreakable methods of data protection, which has its implementation in many sectors, such as of the banking, health care, and anywhere else, where digital data should be protected. Only the person holding the matching decryption key can open, or use the encrypted data. However, in the event of a Ransomware infection, the hackers are the ones who own the decryption key for the locked files, and they blackmail the victims for a ransom in exchange for that key.
The Caleb file encryption.
The Caleb file encryption is a special code that converts the digital files into unreadable bits of data. At the end of the Caleb file encryption process, the affected files may have their file extension changed.
Unfortunately, paying the ransom cannot guarantee the future of the encrypted records. The hackers may simply disappear without providing the victims with a decryption key. Or, the key may not work, and fail to reverse the complex encryption code. This gives you a good reason to opt for alternatives, instead of paying the ransom. Therefore, we often recommend that our readers look for solutions that can help them remove the malware, rather than to pay the offenders.

Reboot in Safe Mode (use this guide if you don’t know how to do it).
WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!
Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.
Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at: https://howtoremove.guide/online-virus-scanner/
After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.
Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.
Hold the Start Key and R – copy + paste the following and click OK:
A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:
If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.
Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:
Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.
- Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.
To remove parasite on your own, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. If you were to do this, you need to be extremely careful, because you may damage your system.
If you want to avoid the risk, we recommend downloading SpyHunter - a professional malware removal tool - to see whether it will find malicious programs on your PC.
Type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter. Once inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name.
Search for the ransomware in your registries and delete the entries. Be extremely careful – you can damage your system if you delete entries not related to the ransomware.
Type each of the following in the Windows Search Field:
Delete everything in Temp. The rest just check out for anything recently added. Remember to leave us a comment if you run into any trouble!
