This page aims to help you remove the Capodanno Virus. Our removal instructions work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows.

Capodanno Virus

The Capodanno Virus is a browser hijacking program interested in spamming user screens with web ads and redirecting user searches to sponsored websites. It is typical for the Capodanno Virus to replace a web browser’s homepage or search engine without asking for approval and to set its own ad-supporting and page-redirecting components.

Capodanno Virus

The Capodanno Virus is a message containing a virus link sent out in Whatsapp.

Normally, a browser hijacker such as the Capodanno Virus will integrate with some of the most common web browsing ads such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and others. From then on, this program will establish some control over the things that get displayed on your screen by installing its own homepage or replacing the default search engine with one that generates sponsored search results and automatically redirects your search queries to specific websites.

What you need to be aware of is that the browser hijacker will place its components deep in your system in order to ensure that they cannot be easily removed and often will not have a simple “Uninstall” button like most of the other browser add-ons and applications. That is why if you want to remove the Capodanno Virus effectively, you need a reliable guide with instructions and a professional removal tool. Fortunately, you don’t have to seek for them separately because, on this page, we have everything that you need.

Is the Capodanno Virus a dangerous program?

Many web users ask us if the Capodanno Virus is one that needs to be deleted and whether it can cause harm to their system. To their relief, the browser hijackers, in general, are not malicious pieces of software and don’t have the harmful abilities of threats such as Ransomware, Trojans, or Spyware. These programs exist only with the idea to advertise different products, services, and software online by displaying their sponsored ads and redirecting users to their websites.

In order to do that, however, programs like the Capodanno Virus tend to employ some aggressive tactics. The above-mentioned unauthorized browser changes are just one of the methods that ensure the display of specific sponsored commercials and websites during the regular web browsing sessions. Apart from that, the browser hijackers may often launch some traffic data collection processes which help them to get information about the user’s latest searches and their most visited pages. Based on that, the marketers behind the hijacker assume what kind of products and services each individual user is interested in and adjust the flow of sponsored ads, banners and pop-ups accordingly. For instance, if you are searching for baby food or a new laptop online, all of a sudden you will start seeing more and more pop-up commercials for what you’ve been searching for.

In a way, this can be seen as a useful service but there are some risks related to it that should be considered. The major issue comes from the fact that no one guarantees the reliability of each and every single ad, web link or a message that gets shown on your screen. This means that clicking on them comes at your own risk and the chance of landing on something misleading is very real. The auto-redirects initiated by the hijacker could add up to that risk as, sometimes, they may land you on web locations that could be compromised by real viruses, Trojans, Ransomware and more.  With this in mind, we believe that uninstalling the Capodanno Virus is a good way to prevent accidental exposure to undesirable web locations and potential security hazards.

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10). Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Drag and Drop Files Here to Scan
Maximum file size: 128MB.

This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at:

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

To remove parasite on your own, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. If you were to do this, you need to be extremely careful, because you may damage your system.

If you want to avoid the risk, we recommend downloading SpyHunter
