This page aims to help you remove Chromio Message Center “Virus”. Our removal instructions work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows.

Has a strange new search engine has been mysteriously installed on your browser and do you now experience constant page redirects? Or has your homepage been replaced without your approval and has your screen started getting flooded with annoying ads, pop-ups and banners? If you are facing similar issues, then your system has most probably been invaded by a browser hijacker called Chromio. Do not panic, though, because our Chromio Message Center removal guide is here to help you remove the irritating ads and remove the strange new changes from your Chrome, Firefox, Explorer or any other browser that might have been affected. To bring things back to normal, just make sure you familiarize yourself with the specifics of this software and carefully read the instructions, provided below.

Unstoppable pop-ups and page redirects – what is causing them?

The annoying ad-generating and page redirecting activities that we just mentioned above are a common disturbance for many web users. These activities are typically initiated by applications known as browser hijackers – aggressive advertising pieces of software which are specialized in loading the users’ screen with hundreds of paid promotional messages, links, ads and offers and redirecting them to certain sponsored web pages. If you don’t know much about this type of applications and their typical behavior, you may easily mistake them for some nasty computer viruses but, luckily, they do not belong to any malware category. Mostly, the browser hijackers change the users’ default browser settings (homepages, search engines, browsing preferences, etc.) in order to facilitate their advertising campaigns and prompt people to click on certain promoted sites and ads through which Pay-Per-Click revenue is gained. Usually, hijackers do not initiate any criminal activities such as theft of information, system corruption or blackmailing – those are typical traits of viruses such as Trojans or Ransomware. Since hijackers are not like that, the are typically not regarded as actual malware threats. Nevertheless, users who have to constantly deal with aggressive redirects and ads streaming on their screen may have hard time using their browser normally. What is more, the hijackers may not really offer any actual useful functionality which may be worth keeping them on the computer. For these reasons, many people prefer to uninstall the annoying software from their system and remove all of its nagging promotional activities.

How can you end up with an application like Chromio Message Center “Virus” on your PC?

Since applications like Chromio Message Center are not seen as viruses and do not actually initiate criminal activities, they oftentimes have an official website which promotes and distributes them. In addition, such applications may be found on many other web locations including popular freeware or shareware sites, torrent platforms, free download links, browser plugins and app installers, spam and email messages, ads, automatic installation managers and various free software packages. In most of the cases, the developers of such undesirable software bundle their products with other program installers (usually free or cheap programs) and promote them as “recommended” or “suggested” components. In case the user does not pay close attention to the installation of such bundles and skips reading the EULA or customizing the setup via the Advanced, Custom or Manual settings, they may unknowingly allow the installation of the added piece of software by default. That’s why, for the effective avoidance of such potentially unwanted applications, it is really important to never skip the details in the installers and to carefully read all of the fine print. Always use the advanced installation options and opt-out of any checkboxes that offer you some additional components and browser changes which you may not want. This will ensure that neither hijackers nor any other kind of sketchy software will become part of your system without your knowledge.

Could Chromio Message Center “Virus” still be related to some potentially unwanted activities and risks despite not being classified as malicious?

A browser hijacker could not match the harmfulness of a real malware threat such as a Trojan horse or a Ransomware. However, it could still cause some browsing issues. For instance, an application like Chromio might not only interrupt your browsing with annoying page redirects and ads but it may also make your browser operate slower or cause it to crash or become unresponsive to your searches. In addition, the hijacker may try to collect some data related to your browsing habits, latest visited pages and interests and send it to different marketers and online advertisers, who can later use it to flood your screen with more targeted ads, pop-ups, banners and offers. All in all, the presence of such software on your PC could be very annoying. That’s why, most users prefer to remove applications like Chromio from their system instead of tolerating their advertising behavior. Fortunately, with the help of specialized software such as the Chromio removal tool on this page or with that of a some detailed instructions like the ones in the removal guide below, anyone can successfully get rid of the browser hijacker without any major risk for the system.
