Perhaps you have already heard about viruses identified as Ransomware. This common name is related to all the programs that do something harmful to your PC: such as encrypting vital data; and after that requesting money so order to set the affected file formats “free”. .Cobra Ransomware is a member of this file-encrypting Ransomware category, to be completely precise. Indeed, this malware is the most hazardous virus type known to all users worldwide. All the programs from this group have some awfully dangerous features. In the next passages we will talk about this malware’s subcategories. Also, such viruses could have various goals and traits, so we have tried to mention the most common of them.

.Cobra Virus File Ransomware

Ransomware Subtypes

This malware can be split into the subcategories below:

  • The biggest subgroup is the one of the infamous file-encrypting Ransomware, the family .Cobra Ransomware belongs to. The viruses from this subcategory typically sneak into your PC in a really intrusive way; can stay hidden until they have defined which files you regularly open or use. Following that, a virus like this will encrypt all such data using an awfully complex encryption code. Later on, a ransom alert is generated to inform you about the encryption of your files and about the probable ways to complete the requested payment. Such blackmailing notifications might really be quite scary.
  • Moreover, it is possible to catch a form of screen-hijacking Ransomware. These programs can either target your PC by blocking the desktops of your computers or laptops; or they can be after your mobile devices  and encode the displays of your smartphones, tablets and other portable gadgets. The essential part is that no real encoding of any files takes place in this case. You are simply going to be incapable of accessing anything on the affected devices, and you are again going to be required to pay a ransom to unblock your screens/ displays.
  • You might also happen to hear or read something about some Ransomware-like programs, exploited by the authorities (special agencies and law enforcement) to make scammers pay fines or simply to prevent them from using their computers for evil purposes. This is the only possible positive usage of this kind of blackmailing software.

Where Ransomware normally lurks

Speaking in general, Ransomware can be caught easily, as such viruses might be distributed via nearly everything online. They may come inside torrents; illegal software distributing websites; and web pages of any kind. Nonetheless, the biggest sources are the ones we have mentioned in the following paragraphs:

  • Malicious pop-ups (and all kinds of online ads): Not all advertisements on the Internet represent merely advertising tools. Some of them may really be used as a means of spreading malware. And, unfortunately, as you cannot tell the malvertisements apart from the harmless ads, we can logically suggest that you stay away from them all. Don’t open, load or click on any pop-up, banner or other kind of ad you come across online.
  • Suspicious emails and everything related to them: Our recommendation for you is to avoid reading any email that looks particularly shady in some way. Trust your intuition as some of them might contain malware. Keep in mind that not only the emails themselves could be contagious; their attachments may be infected as well.  It is absolutely necessary to point out that in this case (Ransomware caught from your email), .Cobra Ransomware may be distributed together with other kinds of viruses. Usually, this will be a Trojan horse virus.  Simply learn to remain careful, as Trojans are likely to be the cause of even more serious issues than the Ransomware itself.

Some useful tips on on how to avoid possible infections

The basic tip is to just stay as far away as possible from all the possible Ransomware sources and spend your money on a great-quality anti-virus piece of software, instead of paying ransom and funding hackers. If you have already received the terrifying ransom-demanding message, what remains for you is to just hope for the best. Actually and unfortunately, there is no 100%-proven method of  getting rid of this virus, and really saving your files and your computer. Still, you might want to explore several possible options. Nonetheless, not a single one of them can promise you a successful file decryption. Despite all the odds, we suggest that you try the Removal Guide below first and only after that – really think about other solutions.
