Cyber Search

Cyber Search is a page-redirecting app that advertises different sites from within the user’s browser by causing the browser to automatically open those sites. Cyber Search is also known for making changes in the search engine and toolbar of the browser in order to display online ads.

The Cyber Search Mac Malware will redirect your searches

In addition, the homepage and the new-tab page of your browser may get replaced by this browser-hijacking app without your informed permission. All of the changes that this undesirable software introduces to your browser are intended to help the hijacker fill your browser with different advertising messages and automatic site-redirects that generate Pay-Per-View and Pay-Per-Click revenue.

Typically, this type of software is compatible with any browser that you may have on your Mac. This includes Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and other browsers and it means that trying to switch to a different browsing program will not help stop the unwanted advertising actions of the hijacker.

Cyber Search for Mac

Cyber Search for Mac is a malware browser add-on that manipulates the settings of Mac browsers and tracks the user’s online activities. The browser-tracking that Cyber Search for Mac performs is supposed to collect telemetry data which could later be used for the distribution of targeted advertisements.

If you have started noticing that the ads, banners, and pop-ups this app puts inside your browser promote content similar to stuff you’ve recently been looking for on the Internet, this means that the hijacker has been monitoring your browsing history and using the information gathered from it to show you more relevant advertisements. Although this may sometimes help show you better deals and offers from online stores, the data collected from your browser could be sold and re-sold to third parties and you could never really be sure how it would be used in the end.

The CyberSearch Virus

The CyberSearch virus is unsafe software that will latch onto your Safari browser and cause uncontrolled display of ads and page-redirects with the goal to advertise certain websites, services, or products. The CyberSearch virus could put your system at risk if some of its ads or redirects aren’t safe.

Most security experts agree that such software like Cyber Search, Search Marquis, Search Baron should not be allowed to remain on the users’ Mac computers due to the potential risks that it may pose to them. Due to the presence of the hijacker on the computer, the latter may get targeted by Trojan viruses, Spyware, Ransomware, or other threats.

The CyberSearch.xyz app

The CyberSearch.xyz app is any application that contains this browser hijacker in its code as a built-in component. The hijacker contained within the CyberSearch.xyz app gets installed automatically alongside the app and can only be removed if the latter gets uninstalled from the computer.

It is advisable that you get rid of this undesirable software and the application that has brought it to your Mac in order to secure the computer and keep it safe from other threats, such as the ones we mentioned above (Trojan Horse viruses, Spyware tools, money-extorting Ransomware, etc.). To help you with the uninstallation of the hijacker, we’ve added a set of removal instructions that you can find down below.

  • After spending hours trying to remove Cyber Search from my Chrome browser, reading all the forums, watching all the YouTube videos, being on the phone with Apple Support for a half hour, trying to remove Chrome policies in Terminal, and quarantining viruses using Malware, nothing worked!

HOWEVER, after going through all of that, I finally figured out the solution! if you have a Mac, here’s what finally worked for me, so maybe it will work for you:

    1. Go to the apple icon in the upper left corner, select System Preferences, then click on “Profiles.”
    2. Listed under “Device Profiles” there should be the shady malware culprit! You’ll know it because it will most likely be the most recent one. Click on it to select it and then click the minus sign to remove it.
    3. Close all programs and browsers and do a hard restart of your computer.
    4. Upon restart, open Chrome and your normal search engine should now be restored!
    5. Go into Chrome settings and remove all the extra search engines that came with Cyber Search. Google Chrome should now be showing as your default search engine and Cyber Search et al should now have “remove” as a clickable feature.

    Hope this helps!
