This page aims to help you remove Dcrtr Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any .Dcrtr file can be recovered.

A new version of file-encrypting Ransomware has recently appeared online and is taking the files of its first victims hostage. The name of the infection is Dcrtr. It looks like this time the criminals have come up with a very complex encryption code, which is almost unbreakable and poses a real challenge to security experts. The files, encrypted by Dcrtr cannot be accessed with any software and their file extension may also be changed. If you want to regain access to your data, you are asked to pay ransom to the criminals, who stand behind the infection. But is this the only way to deal with this Ransomware threat? Fortunately, there is a free Removal Guide at the end of this page and if you stay with us ’til the end, you will find more details about it and all the alternatives, which may help you remove Dcrtr from your system.

Dcrtr: getting to know the threat

Ransomware is a popular tool for online blackmail. In recent years, this type of malware has been gaining huge popularity in criminal circles and the criminals, who create such pieces, use them to target almost everyone who is using the web. From hospitals, schools, big enterprises, institutions and small businesses to regular web users, they can all be attacked by Ransomware. Dcrtr is just one of the many malicious scripts, exploited for such blackmail purposes, but its presence on your computer can lead to severe data loss and harmful system consequences. Once this infection gets inside the computer, its job is to systematically scan all the drives and place a very complex encryption on all the files that can be found there. The Ransomware may also add a unique file extension to each and every file in order to ensure they are completely unrecognizable by the system.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

msconfig_opt

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Step4

WARNING!
To remove parasite, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. Making a mistake and deleting the wrong thing may damage your system.
Avoid this by using SpyHunter - a professional Parasite removal tool.

Keep in mind, SpyHunter’s malware & virus scanner is free. To remove the infection, you'll need to purchase its full version. More information about SpyHunter and steps to uninstall.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press EnterOnce inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name.

How to Decrypt Dcrtr files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

When the malicious encryption process is completed, Dcrtr generates an automatic ransom message, which contains instructions from the criminals. This message basically contains a set of ransom payment steps and a short deadline, after which, restoration of the encrypted files may not be possible. Typically, the victims will be offered a decryption key, if they follow the given ransom steps strictly and pay the amount of the ransom on time. If they don’t, they will be left with their files encrypted forever and there may be no other way to access them again. Unfortunately, we are afraid to say that this is partly true. Full recovery of the affected data is possible only if the right decryption key is applied or if the victim uses their own backup copies.

In the guide below, we will speak about a few more alternatives, which cannot guarantee complete restoration but are still preferable than the ransom payment. If you are confused and don’t know what to do, the best we can advise you is to try every possible alternative first and keep your thoughts about the ransom payment as a very last option. The reason is, you cannot trust the hackers and even if you give them your money, nothing can guarantee you the successful decryption of your files. What if the crooks simply disappear and don’t give you a decryption key? Or what if that key doesn’t work? Not to mention that it is not safe to keep Ransomware on your system. You basically will not be able to use it safely because every new file you create will most probably become encrypted as well. At least until you fully remove all the traces of the infection.

How to remove Dcrtr?

To clean your PC from Dcrtr, we recommend you use a trusted anti-malware program like the professional tool, which is available on this page. If you prefer the manual method, you can try to delete the Ransomware by yourself with the help of the instructions in the Removal guide below. Once you have cleaned the computer, we suggest you give a try to the file-restoration steps, included in the guide. You can also contact a professional of your choice for additional assistance, but if you have file backups, it is best to use them to recover your encrypted data.

A few words about protection and prevention won’t hurt at the end. Knowing that Internet is full of tricky threats such as Dcrtr, you need to be very careful with the content you interact with. Spam, malicious emails and their attachments (which may often contain a Trojan horse), misleading links, sketchy ads, illegal sites and infected installers are the most common malware transmitters. To avoid them, you should not only stick to trusted online sources but also install reputed antivirus software to provide optimal protection for your PC.
