This page aims to help you remove Defray Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Defray Ransomware file can be recovered.

Defray Ransomware is a Ransomware threat that encrypts the users’ files with a very complex algorithm. After encrypting the information, it leaves a ransom message on the victims’ screen or into a folder, containing encrypted files, or changes the desktop image directly with a ransom notification. To get access to their files again, the victims have to contact the cyber criminals, who control the malware and pay the required ransom. Typically, the virus also may change the file extensions of the affected data just to make sure that it is unrecognizable for the system or any other software. The locked files usually include images, documents, archives, audio or video data, projects, databases and more. The fraudsters claim there is no other way to recover the encrypted files except purchasing the Defray Ransomware decryptor. The amount of the ransom may vary. However, we do not advise you to transfer the money because the hackers do not give any guarantee that your information will be restored. If your system has been infected and you are desperately looking for a way to deal with the Ransomware, you are lucky to have found our page. Here we will do our best to assist you in removing Defray Ransomware and eventually save up some of your data and your money.

How to deal with Defray Ransomware?

One reason explaining the success of the Ransomware threats is the use of special encryption code which locks the data in a way that it cannot be opened. The criminal creators of Defray Ransomware also rely on this method and use a very complex encryption to prevent the users from accessing their files in order to ruthlessly blackmail them. Because of its complexity, the encrypted information usually cannot be recovered without the corresponding decryption key. Fortunately, the security professionals are working hard to help users avoid paying to cyber criminals by releasing legitimate decryption tools. Therefore, in the near future, it is expected that Defray Ransomware may also be provided with a decryptor. But what should you do ’til then?

Regardless of how dangerous each of the Ransomware viruses may seem, there is still some hope to deal with them and eventually recover the affected files. First, you need to remove the infection from your computer and then move on to the decryption. This is very important for the safety of your system and the following file-restoration attempts. If you want to remove this virus immediately, try scanning your system with the specialized removal tool below. Otherwise, if you cannot install or run security software, you can use the manual instructions in the free removal guide below to locate and delete the infection by yourself.

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

msconfig_opt

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

How to Decrypt Defray Ransomware files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!

The criminals say the only way to recover files is to purchase the decryption tool, but is it so?

There is no doubt that you should not at all times comply with the ransom instructions and pay the ransom. No one can guarantee that the criminals actually have working decryption software and that they will want to give it to you. Keep in mind that dealing with such hackers, who have no scruples to invade your system and all your data, may not work well. That’s why our “How to remove” team and all other reputed security experts will never encourage you to enter into negotiation with the crooks and risk losing everything. It is true that without a decryption key there are very few methods to recover your files, but let us tell you the alternatives.

Once you have fully removed Defray Ransomware from your system, the best is to start searching for file backups. If you have full data backups somewhere on an external drive or a cloud, you absolutely don’t need to pay a penny to the criminals. You will recover all of your data from there. Also, it is a good idea to search for copies of your recent files in your email inbox, on your other devices, USB flash memory, memory cards and external archives. You can also give a try to our free file-restoration instructions. We cannot tell you exactly how much of data you will be able to extract with their help because each and every Ransomware attack affects the victims differently, but still, it won’t harm if you check them.

Distribution strategies used by the Defray Ransomware creators

Ransomware, in general, is typically spread through two main types of channels: spam emails or Trojans. These two methods have become a very popular technique in recent years. Although IT professionals are constantly warning the web users to be careful, they are still catching the malware up because the hackers keep coming up with more sophisticated distribution techniques every time. Infection like Defray Ransomware may even hide in fake ads, misleading links, torrent, shady installers and more. So, you never know how creative the criminals may be. To reduce the risk of infection, avoid interaction with unknown web content and non-reputed sources and update your system with the latest security patches and updates.
