Welcome to “Howtoremove.guide”. This website is dedicated to helping online users like you deal with all sorts of computer infections. If you landed here because you are having issues with a virus named .File, then on this page, you will surely find some useful information about it. The text below reveals the typical characteristics and effects of this threat, which, unfortunately, belongs to the infamous Cryptomix Ransomware family. The most important thing you need to know about Ransomware infections is that they operate by encrypting users’ files and blocking the victims’ access to their data or their device. The basic motive behind this action is a nasty online blackmail scheme, which requires a ransom payment, in order to liberate the affected device. In brief, threats like .File are very malicious pieces of software, programmed to cause harm in a tricky way, which may not always be detected by your antivirus. For this reason, preventing such infections and dealing with them is a very challenging task, and the recovery may not always be successful. However, in the removal guide below, we did our best to offer you an alternative to the ransom payment, which may eventually help you remove .File and save some of your files from the malicious encryption. We suggest you take a look at it or contact a security specialist, instead of giving your money to some unscrupulous hackers.

.File Ransomware

.File Virus Ransomware

What is Ransomware and what may .File virus do?

Ransomware is a big malware category. In recent years, these types of threats have been developing at a fast pace and more and more sophisticated representatives keep appearing. .File, for instance, is a freshly detected version, which is capable of blocking your entire access to all the most frequently used files, kept on the infected computer, through a very complex file encryption algorithm. This way, it makes all the data completely inaccessible to you and starts to blackmail you to pay ransom in exchange for a decryption key. According to security specialists, the file encryption is the most difficult to handle, that’s why the file-encrypting type of Ransomware is considered to be one of the most malicious. There are also some other Ransomware versions, which we will mention briefly. Apart from computers, Ransomware may target mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets. This type of malware uses a similar tactic of blocking your access to the infected device and places a ransom notification on your screen, asking you to pay a certain amount of money. The screen-locking type is another variant, which can target not only mobile devices but also your computer or your laptop. It does not encrypt your files but places a huge on-screen ransom message, which cannot be removed unless you pay ransom.

How to Decrypt .File files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

Which are the most usual sources of a threat like .File ransomware?

Unfortunately, infections of the Ransomware category are very difficult to detect. They use very tricky infection methods and well-camouflaged malicious transmitters in order to delude the web users and get inside their system undetected. Usually, the hackers, who create such threats distribute them in some legitimate-looking emails, containing infected links or attachments. They may resemble invoices, PDF documents, .exe files or some free or attractive offers, which, in fact, may contain a well-hidden Trojan horse, which acts as a direct transmitter of the Ransomware. Such malware may not attack you only through your email inbox, though. You should be careful when interacting with ads, pop-ups messages, “too-good-to-be-true” offers, torrents, free download links or sketchy sites, because sometimes one click is the difference between catching a nasty infection or staying safe.

How can you deal with a Ransomware infection like .File?

In case you have already fallen victim to the encryption of .File, we have to tell you that your courses of action are pretty limited. Paying ransom to the hackers is the obvious option, but every security expert would strongly advise you against it, as not only is this a direct form of sponsorship to the hackers’ blackmail scheme, but it does not guarantee the recovery of your files. In fact, keeping a dangerous Ransomware virus on your system makes your computer unsafe for further usage. That’s why what we would advise you is to remove it from your system instead of giving your money to the criminals. Regarding the recovery of the encrypted data, the only 100% sure method is to copy it back from external file backups. If you keep any, you can restore everything the very moment you remove .File from the system. What about if you don’t have copies? Well, we cannot guarantee you will be able to get all the files back. However, we can suggest you give a try to the file-restoration instructions below. Also, it is advisable to contact a specialist in Ransomware recovery or search for some reputed file decryption tools. They may potentially help you minimize the data loss without paying a ransom.
