This page aims to help you remove Gedantar Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Gedantar file can be recovered.

Ransomware is a malware category, which is extremely dangerous and problematic and, worst of all, there isn’t a single effective methods for dealing with representatives of this virus group. According to some recent researches, the web users are threatened by a new virus of the Ransomware type named Gedantar. Literally anyone could fall a victim to the nasty file-encrypting grasp of this infection. That’s why, on this page, we will try to reveal the most probable sources of Gedantar and the most effective methods to protect your PC and your files. If the tips that we are going to share here are arriving too late for you and if your data has already been encrypted, the Removal Guide below may be of help. It contains detailed instructions on how to detect and remove Gedantar from your computer as well as some suggestions on how to potentially save at least some of your files from the nasty encryption.

Gedantar blackmails you by blocking the access to your own files!

Gedantar is an advanced form of Ransomware, which can cause you a lot of trouble. The way this virus harms you is not by destroying your system but by encrypting the personal data that you keep on it. It uses a very complex crypto algorithm, which turns the files on your hard drives into unreadable pieces of data which you cannot open or use with any software. The virus may also change the file extensions and keep the files hostage for an indefinite period of time. When the encryption process is over, a ransom note usually gets displayed on your screen. It contains a message from the hackers, who control the Ransomware, which prompts you to pay ransom in exchange for a decryption key that is supposed to reverse the malicious encryption. Basically, you become a victim of a blackmailing scheme, which asks you for a ransom to access your own data.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Step3

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

msconfig_opt

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Step4

WARNING!
To remove parasite, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. Making a mistake and deleting the wrong thing may damage your system.
Avoid this by using SpyHunter - a professional Parasite removal tool.

Keep in mind, SpyHunter’s malware & virus scanner is free. To remove the infection, you'll need to purchase its full version. More information about SpyHunter and steps to uninstall.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press EnterOnce inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name.

Search for the ransomware  in your registries and delete the entries. Be extremely careful –  you can damage your system if you delete entries not related to the ransomware.

Type each of the following in the Windows Search Field:

  1. %AppData%
  2. %LocalAppData%
  3. %ProgramData%
  4. %WinDir%
  5. %Temp%

Delete everything in Temp. The rest just check out for anything recently added. Remember to leave us a comment if you run into any trouble!

How to Decrypt Gedantar files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!

How can you get infected with Gedantar?

According to the information that we have, most of the contaminations happen through very well camouflaged malicious transmitters. A popular method that the hackers use to distribute Ransomware is the spam. Massive spam email campaigns are usually run through BotNets and deliver harmful attachments (PDF files, .exe files, images, links, archives, etc.) inside the peoples’ email inbox. Trojan horses may also load viruses like Gedantar inside the system by secretly compromising the machine and creating vulnerability for the Ransomware to exploit. Other possible transmitters could be torrents, infected software installers, pirated content, sketchy websites, streaming platforms, fake ads, misleading links or pop-ups or even seemingly harmless social network messages. Knowing this, one should be very careful with the content they interacts with and be very selective about the web locations they visit. Unfortunately, one wrong click is usually all that it takes for the infection to take place, and it doesn’t necessarily have certain symptoms. Gedantar may complete its file encryption in absolute stealth, running as a background process, which even your antivirus may not be able to detect. That’s why it is best if you avoid potential malware transmitters at all cost and make sure to keep your sstem secure by installing the latest security updates. Making a full backup of all your important data is also a must if you want to prevent the cyber criminals from blackmailing you for the access to your files.

Can Gedantar Ransomware be removed and the files restored?

Frankly speaking, the recovery from a Ransomware attack is something very uncertain. In most of the cases, the removal of the infection may be possible, which is a good thing. The bad thing, however, is that even if the virus is eliminated successfully from the system, the files, which have been encrypted, may remain inaccessible. They will most probably be present on the system, but no software will be able to open them. This means, that if you want to have access to them, you either have to find a way to reverse the malicious encryption or use backup copies. Keep in mind though, that reversing the encryption is only possible with a special decryption key, which the hackers want ransom for. Unfortunately, no one can tell you how well this key will work and whether you will receive it or not. The hackers, as typical cyber criminals, may hide their traces once you make the payment without sending you the means to recover your data, therefore beware of the possibility of never hearing from them again and losing your money in vain. For this reason, we won’t advise you to follow the ransom instructions and instead seek other alternatives that might help you deal with Gedantar. A possible solution could be the free Removal Guide below, which contains detailed Ransomware removal and file-restoration steps. Another effective alternative to remove Gedantar is the professional removal tool, which is available on this page. We suggest you make use of these two options and see if they can help you minimize the negative consequences of Gedantar to a certain extent.
