Genesis Mass

Genesis Mass is a type of malware recognized as a browser hijacker that steals the settings of popular Mac browsers. Once Genesis Mass infects the user’s Safari, Chrome, or Firefox browser, it changes the settings of its homepage and starts to initiate aggressive page-redirects.

Those page redirects are intended to improve the ratings and traffic of certain sites, the owners of which pay the hijacker’s creators for the promotional services. A change in the default search engine of the affected browser may also occur after a hijacker gets installed in your Mac. This is also done with the purpose of getting you redirected to some promoted sites. The search results provided by the new search engine that has gotten installed in your browser would likely favor advertised sites, while pushing the most relevant results further down the page, or maybe even to the second page of the search results. Not only could this make your overall browsing experience quite frustrating, but it could also increase the risk of visiting an unsafe site that contains hazards such as phishing elements or pirated uploads that may be loaded with viruses such as Trojans, Worms, or Ransomware.

Genesis Mass for Mac

Genesis Mass for Mac is a Mac browser add-on that behaves aggressively and constantly tries to redirect your searches and browser traffic. The main goal of Genesis Mass for Mac is to get you to visit the sites of its sponsors, who pay commissions for getting promoted.

This advertising model is quite common online and oftentimes results in significant profits. However, when a hijacker such as Genesis Mass, Search Marquis, QSearch is applying it, the whole experience could be quite frustrating and it could also lead to certain security risks. The main problem is, as we already mentioned, the possibility of getting infected with malware. You cannot know if a given hijacker advert or page redirect would actually lead you to a reliable site. For all you know, the site you are getting redirected to could be infested with all kinds of viruses or could be used for phishing purposes. Therefore, the advisable course of action is to uninstall the unwanted app ASAP.
