“Virus” Pop-up Removal (for Android)

Programs like “Virus” have the potential to cause huge annoyance once they get installed on your smartphone or some other Android device. If you have recently detected that this browser hijacker is messing up with your Chrome, Firefox, Safari or some other favorite browsing app that you are using, in the next lines, you will learn how to remove it. “Virus” is often capable of imposing certain changes to your homepage or search engine and make the hijacked browser redirect you to various unfamiliar sites full of nagging ads, pop-ups, banners and tabs. Such activity can hardly bring you any actual functionality and is no fun either, that’s why we suggest you use the details in the removal guide below to safely remove it and save your device from any ads-related disturbance.

Is “Virus” a threat?

Programs like “Virus” are all about displaying advertisements of different products, services or websites on the screen of your tablet or smartphone. They usually use a rather aggressive method, known as browser hijacking, to prompt the users to interact with the displayed ads. This way, they ensure that the shown ads, pop-ups, and banners will receive clicks, which can generate profits for the developers of the program, thanks to Pay-Per-Click or some sponsored advertisement positioning. Many online based businesses often use the browser hijackers as aggressive advertising tools and this is perfectly normal. These pieces are legally developed and do not violate any law.

But sometimes, in their attempts for more exposure and clicks, the owners of the program may also violate the users’ privacy and cause them serious browsing-related disturbance. Most of the programs of the “Virus” type have the ability to silently collect data about the users’ latest web searches, social shares, and likes and then use it to extract marketing related information. This helps the marketers to position their ads better, however, if such data, by any chance, falls in the hands of some hackers, the user’s privacy may be seriously compromised. Another risk, related to browser hijackers is the possible exposure to viruses and other nasty online threats like Ransomware and Trojans. This may happen involuntarily if you happen to click on some misleading ad or get redirected to compromised pages.

How to rid your Android system from “Virus”?

Browser hijacking applications, which can affect your Android smartphone or tablet, usually become part of the system along with some other apps that you install. You cannot do much to prevent their installation and that’s why we advise you to carefully research the apps you intend to install in order to avoid them. “Virus” Pop-up Removal

Whether you use the default “Internet” App for browsing or a different browser like Chrome you need to go to:
Settings/More/Application Manager/All

Locate the Browser/App in question and tap on it.

Now the method is effectively the same for users using both “Internet” and Chrome/Other Browsers, yet for more clarity we have provided instructions for both:

For “Internet” Browser Users:

Tap the Force Stop button.

Now tap the Clear Data and Clear Cache Buttons.

For Google Chrome Users:

Click on  Force Stop.

Then click on Clear Data and Clear Cache.

Restart your Browser. It might be a good idea to Reboot your Android device, just in case.

  • Important!

If you are still seeing Ads in your browser, it is likely they are generated by the websites you visit and there is nothing you can do about it.

However, if you are seeing Adverts outside of your internet browser, then one of your installed Apps contains the problematic Adware. In this case you need to take a look at this guide.
