This page aims to help you remove Gr3g Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Gr3g  file can be recovered.

In the following text we are going to thoroughly discuss all the details and possible negative effects of Gr3g Ransomware, a program identified as Ransomware. In general, the word “Ransomware” stands for all the malicious viruses capable of damaging your PC in the following way. Later on, they demand that you should pay a ransom for neutralizing the harmful processes these viruses have resulted in. This particular version of Ransom-related programs, Gr3g Ransomware, can render most of your commonly used files inaccessible, and after that – extort some money from you. More info about what you can expect from this Ransomware is available below. This ransom-requiring virus can infiltrate your device in several ways (the most regularly exploited of which we are going to talk about here). What’s more, it normally creates a list with the data you tend to access or use in any way; and following that encrypts all these files in order to make you unable to access them ever again. The malicious versions that can encode data fall into file-encrypting Ransomware subtype and so does Gr3g Ransomware.

General Ransomware features

There are different Ransomware subtypes that you might come across while surfing the web. The primary aim of this article is informative, and as a result – we are going to mention these types and you are going to learn more about what to expect from them:

  • Ransomware for mobile devicesRansomware can infiltrate tablets and phones. Basically, no portable device is safe. This malware can greatly disturb you by making you unable to access the screens of the affected devices. Actually, what blocks a particular device’s display is the ransom alert that states you are supposed to pay a ransom in exchange for getting it removed and being able to use your icons again.
  • Ransomware for computer and laptop screens – These viruses resemble the mobile-targeting Ransomware. The consequences are similar, just the target devices are different. In this case your desktop PCs and laptops are the targets. Their screens get covered with very big ransom notifications which make you completely incapable of accessing them.

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

How to Decrypt Gr3g Ransomware files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

How does such an awful infection occur?

There may be plenty of methods used for spreading these hazardous viruses. To catch Gr3g Ransomware (as well as any other malicious program) is more than possible in case you:

  • Open unfamiliar emails or download their shady attachments: This is a very widely-spread manner of distributing Ransomware on the web. Perhaps the most bothering thing about this particular possibility is the probability of also getting infected by Trojan parallel with Gr3g Ransomware. It is more than possible that these two viruses could come bundled from such a source as the contaminated spam emails you might receive.
  • Load fake system requests: These malicious programs may come automatically in case you follow shady-appearing update or other system requests. You might receive such alerts as pop-ups from websites that contain malware. As soon as you click on such a request, your device will get infected.
  • Visit and use movie/torrent/software-streaming web pages, most of which are illegal: You can watch videos and films on web platforms, of course. Nevertheless, try to use trustworthy pages. Stay away from downloading software in an illegal way. By doing so you are very likely to come across many malware sources. What’s more, avoid any suspicious torrents as they could be contagious as well.

One vital detail you should not neglect: Ransomware is so dangerous  because anything on the Internet might be containing it. There is no movie, webpage, torrent, or  piece of software you could really afford to wholeheartedly trust.

Removing such a contamination:

Provided that your PC has already been attacked by Gr3g Ransomware, we have to say the chances in front of you are more than limited. You can try consulting a professional to check what such may possibly do. Another thing that might help is downloading special software, which is designed to successfully deal with such a virus, and stopping its harmful consequences. What’s more, take a look at the Removal Guide just below the characteristic features table. You can be able to counteract the infection and restore your encrypted data. However, we cannot really promise you that the recovery of your data will necessarily be possible. Counteracting Ransomware is not as simple as we would like it to be. But we do hope that our Removal Guide might just be able to help you.
