I can hardly see my screen behind this wall of annoying ads! How can I get rid of them?
This is a very common complaint among PC users and the reason for the nagging issue is almost always the same type of PUP. For those of you who don’t know what PUP means, the abbreviation stands for potentially unwanted programs. These are usually legit and legal software products, that in the majority of cases, do not pose any threat to your system. However, their annoying nature and/or poor programming is why they are deemed undesirable. In this particular case, the obstructive ads that you see are probably caused by an adware program/browser add-on such as Hightsearch “Virus” (one of the latest of its kind). The single purpose of such add-ons is covering your screen with various pop-ups, banners and box messages. The idea behind all this is that every click any of the ads receives will gain revenue for the adware’s developer. This is called the pay-per-click method and is highly exploited the creators of those intrusive browser plug-ins. Sometimes you might even see an adware promoted as a browser enhancement, but make no mistake, if a certain application falls under this category of nagging software, then it’s very unlikely that it would have any useful value (except for its developer).
Is the Hightsearch “Virus” harmful?
Still, as we already said, most adware aren’t usually harmful to your PC. Even though sometimes people freak-out once the ads start popping-up, thinking that their PC has been infected by a nasty virus, more often than not the panic has been absolutely unnecessary. Some articles will have you believe that adware are as harmful as malicious programs such as Trojan Horses or even Ransomware – there’s no such thing. In fact, you don’t even need to contact a specialist – you can get rid of the program yourself. For this, we have provided you with a detailed guide on how to uninstall and remove adware programs such as Hightsearch “Virus”. This is also our first advice to you – make sure that you remove the nagging browser add-on as soon as possible, else it will not cease to obstruct your browsing experience.
However, before we get to that, there are several other important things that you need to know about “Hightsearch supprimer” and the likes of it.
Why you shouldn’t click on the ads?
Firstly, thought these programs are, for the most part, not threatening, they can still trick you into exposing your PC to potential hazards. Clicking on any of the ads may result into you getting redirected to an illegal or otherwise dangerous webpage. Sometimes, such page redirects may occur even if you did not click on anything. If this happens, quickly close that newly opened page without interacting with it whatsoever. You surely don’t want to further clog your machine with intrusive or even potentially harmful software. This happens quite rarely and most of the ads you see are perfectly safe and legit. Still, there’s no need to expose your computer to any unnecessary security risks.
Another important thing to know about adware is how they get distributed throughout the internet and what you need to do (or not do) so as to fend them off in future.
There are numerous ways via such programs can get into your system. Some of them include file-sharing sites and unreliable torrents. Spam e-mails are a very popular method for the distribution of not only adware but all sorts of unwanted programs.
However, one method stands out among the rest due to its effectiveness and success rate. We are referring to the program-bundling. With this method, Hightsearch entfernen is bundled with another cheap or downright free software. Once you download and install that third-party program onto your PC, if you’re not careful, you get the adware as well. Here, we should make it clear that program-bundling is a perfectly legal method and is in fact very widely used for distributing all sorts of add-on type of programs such as custom new search engines, browser enhancements, utility tools etc. In fact, it is very easy to prevent the intrusive software from getting into your system via file-bundling. All you need to do is select the custom settings option in the installation menu of the program you’re about to install. In there, you should be able to see a list of all added content. Uncheck everything from that list which seems suspicious or potentially unwanted. After doing so you can safely proceed with the installation of the main thing.
|Danger Level||Medium (nowhere near threats like Ransomware, but still a security risk)|
|Symptoms||Intrusive ads covering your screen while you’re browsing are the most prominent symptom.|
|Distribution Method||Spam e-mails, torrent and file-sharing sites are all common methods. However, the most effective one is the program bundling.|
|Detection Tool||Hightsearch may be difficult to track down. Use SpyHunter – a professional parasite scanner – to make sure you find all files related to the infection.|
