FlashMall Ads Overview
- A new and “improved” wave of malware hit the web in 2015 – FlashMall is a member if this virus group that should be removed from your system without delay, as the advertisements are used by malicious third parties to promote their personal websites.
- If you are experiencing lagginess and an overall drop in performance, look no further than FlashMall, since our internal tests point it has a profound impact on the CPU.
- We also collected several samples from the advertisements, and as far as we could verify, they appear to be genuine. However, the links leading to the products are frequently corrupted, which should speak enough for the quality of the advertisements.
- The most wide-spread way PCs have been infected is via other programs; this is a process called “bundling” (sharing an installation setup).
While these are all the basics you need to be aware of, I recommend the rest of this article. The removal section below will help you remove FlashMall Ads, but it will not teach you how to avoid viruses in the future. The next section on the other hand is designed with exactly that in mind.
How To Avoid FlashMall Ads
First things first, you need to be aware of how FlashMall Ads operates. As I already mentioned, the advertisements sometimes lead to corrupted links, which can potentially download and install another virus. Once it has successfully snuck in, any virus of the adware class starts displaying at least three distinct messages, aimed to trick you into contracting even more of its colleagues. Thes are typically messages that either Java or Flashplayer have newer versions available, or that a plugin is missing from your browser. Do NOT click on them! They are a trick a 100% of the time! These banners only lead to headaches and more problems. Basically the people who created the virus have made them as a mechanism to ensure that your browsers will continue to be infected. Their overall plan is to fill your PC with more and more malware, slowing the CPU to unimaginable lows, all with the purpose of displaying the advertisements. It’s all done for two main reasons:
- The creators were hired to promote websites affiliated with whoever paid
- Or they promote their own websites.
In both cases you’re not exactly a willing participant, and in the former case, the creators of FlashMall Ads make money on a pay per install basis. What install you may ask? After conducting a short research we determined that the number one way PCs get infected with adware is through being installed with other programs. Free software are especially notorious for harboring malware. The catch here is that whenever you install a freeware, it has to announce and ask you about additional content. So an easy way to shield yourself from viruses in the future is to monitor the setup for when it asks you (usually at the end). And don’t choose Express Install – it always includes the other stuff. Also you can skimp through the EULA for any mentions of “not being reponsible for third party advertising” or something on that note.
