1.    Understanding

Since you are reading this article you’ve already realized your machine has been infected with It is a malware-type of malicious software, whose purpose is to spy on your machine, gather information about your habits, saturate your browser with ads, or even make way for more dangerous viruses like rootkits or keyloggers. At the very least will slow down your computer by stealing processor time – on an older machine this may even cause unbearable lag to stuttering.

2.    Minimizing the damage:

DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING connected to Do not click on any pop-ups, prompts to install missing plugins or install “free” malware removal tools or basically anything else offered by the virus. Best case scenario these will be useless ads, worst case yet more malware. Sometimes even the “close” button may have a hidden malicious link attached. Safest way to get rid of it is bringing up the Task Manager and terminating the whole browser page. REMEMBER: The longer malware stays on your PC the more damage it might cause. It’s always best to remove it as soon as possible. It is of utmost importance to avoid accessing your bank account, PayPal or any other site which contains sensitive passwords until the threat has been dealt with.

3.    Methods of infection and how to prevent infections: and malware in general share several well-known and proven methods of invading computers. The most prominent of these are:

Shell” programs are malware programs posing as something legitimate. Often, when such apps are not downloaded from the official developer they may be infected with malware. If you are trying to download a torrent file, .mp3 file, an ebook file or anything else really and you get something ending with .exe – then you should hit alt+f4. But even more important – always download software from the original manufacturer or from mirrors linked by his site.

Bundled malware” – these are semi-legal toolbars or search bars that come together as optional installs with popular software. They rely on the user not paying attention (and clicking next several times) when installing the program they are bundled with. These are relatively easy to avoid if one pays attention and reads carefully when installing new software.

Missing Plug-in scheme” – fake sites that convince you to install a missing plug-in to view promised content. Never install plug-ins from sites that you are not absolutely sure are legitimate.

Phishing links” – these links are often spammed on forums, comments or other places where many people can see them. Often they will try to pass as legitimate websites – for example has an extra d that can easily missed with longer links.
