Helper King Ads Overview
- This is a virus of the adware type – hardly dangerous, but still annoying enough that you should remove them immediately, because the longer they stay, the bigger the troubles they cause.
- Said troubles are related to the fake messages about missing plugins and updates that will start to appear. WARNING! DO NOT, I repeat, NOT install any updates your PC proposes until you’ve dealt with Helper King Ads. They are all part of the virus and will download more malware instead of updates.
- The advertisements appear to be genuine, however when you click on the underlined words, the links do not always lead you to the advertised products. Instead there’s a pretty good chance you end up on a promoted website, which, on top of all, may be corrupted with more viruses. Avoid visiting anything adware offers you.
- Threats of this type are closely associated with several effects on the system, like a general lagginess, because the CPU can’t keep up with the constantly shifting advertisements on each and every one page. The browsers themselves may start crashing as well, and startup errors may start appearing. These are all reversible effects that will be gone as soon as you remove the virus.
How To Avoid Helper King Ads
The first thing you should learn on this track, is what the viruses want. They are basically created as blackhat (dirty) promotional tools some people have become tempted to use over the years. The idea here is not to lure you into visiting websites, but rather – force you to do it. And the ads’ intrusiveness (appearing on every single page) and forcefulness makes regular users want to delete them as soon as possible. So if you are one of the people who created this thing, what do you do? Ensure that there are more viruses of this type. So whenever and adware like Helper King Ads infects a PC, it begins attempting to trick you into downloading more of its kind, until it becomes more an infestation than infection.
There are ways to shield yourself though. The easiest is to know the usual tricks Helper King Ads and co. employ. By far the most common path they take to infiltrate PCs is through another program. Spam E-mail and corrupted advertisements also play this role, but as I said, by far the most prominent path is the process of bundling. Or in other words, whenever you install a free program – they are well known for harboring malware – it’s a pretty good bet a virus may be involved. Freeware providers are typically paid to include adware in their bundles. That’s just one of the ways they make money.
So how do you spot it? Monitor the setup. Always choose Custom Install, because the Express option will include everything. At some point during the last steps, the installation process will ask you if you want to include the “bonus.” That’s where you need to uncheck it.
