Is it you in the video virus

“Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus

“Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus is an app that seems to have found its way to a quite sizable number of PCs and many users are presently having difficulty removing it from their machines. This should mainly be attributed to the typical lack of built-in uninstallation options that most hijacker apps like “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus are known for.

Intrusive ads, random pesky page redirects and unwanted changes to different components of your browser such as the starting page address and the search engine tool that you have not agreed to are all things that are typically caused by the representatives of a specific software category known as browser hijackers. These apps are not malicious like threats such as ransomware or Trojans but they are highly annoying and although their purpose isn’t to damage your system or to carry out cyber crimes, they could still be compromising to your system’s security if you allow them to reside inside your PC for extended periods of time. The usual targets of such apps are browsing programs like Chrome, Edge and Firefox but its possible that other browsers could get affected as well.

Through the ads, the redirects and the online marketing changes that hijackers like “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus tend to impose on the users’ browsers, the people behind such unpleasant apps tend to earn significant amounts of revenue. This is, in fact, the main reason for the creation and distribution of apps that belong to the hijacker category – they are all about gaining profits through online advertising and so it makes sense that their creators would prefer if their products could remain on people’s PCs for extended periods of time.

Tricky, but not impossible…

After all, each click on a hijacker ad and each visit to a page redirect that a given user makes generates profit for the developers of the pesky piece of software which is the main reason why hijackers oftentimes tend to be rather tricky to remove.

It doesn’t really matter if you choose to use the manual instructions or go for the automatic removal using the specialized tool for removing such unwanted programs and apps. The important thing is that you eventually manage to get rid of “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus and of all of the data related to it that might have been left on your PC. Note that the sheer intrusiveness of the irritating hijacker isn’t actually the only reason why you might want to get rid of it. There’s actually a more important reason why we always advise our readers to remove such pieces of software from their computers as soon as they learn about their presence inside the system.

A hijacker, though not as harmful as a ransomware cryptovirus or a Trojan threat or a spyware infection, is not a software piece you are supposed to trust. The nature and the appearance of the displayed advertisements and page redirects on your screen should speak for themselves. It is widely known that, if one wants to keep their computer safe, they must not open any random adverts and sketchy-looking web offers or interact with the contents of questionable web pages. And, if there’s a hijacker on your computer, there will be plenty of those showing on your screen each and every time you try to use your browsing program. With this in mind, it should be easy for you to see exactly why it’s usually preferable if you don’t allow any software components like “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus to reside on your computer.

If this is not enough to save you from “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus and its nagging pop-ups, banners and notifications, please follow the detailed “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus removal guide below to remove any other traces that the hijacker might have left in the system.

Step1

In this first step, we recommend you to do a system reboot in Safe Mode (click the link for instructions on that). Before you do so, however, make sure you bookmark this removal guide or save the link to it somewhere, so you can get back and complete the next steps.

After you reboot in Safe Mode, go to the Start menu and type appwiz.cpl in the search field.

Open the result and check if something new has been installed in the list of programs. If you detect a program that is bogus or potentially unwanted, and you believe this is the program is related to your hijacking issues, uninstall it from the computer.

Step2

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

If the program you want to uninstall does not want to get uninstalled, this could be because there are some processes related to it that are running in the background. To check that, press CTRL, SHIFT and ESC together and select Processes in the Windows Task Manager window:

If the scan results are disturbing, end the process and delete the dangerous files.

    Step3

In many cases, the browser hijacker tends to add startup items in the system that help it operate right from the start of the computer. These items can be found if you type msconfig in the Start menu search field and open System Confirguration>>>Startup tab.

    msconfig_opt

If you detect such startup items in the list, uncheck them and click OK to disable them from running.

    Step4

A hijacker like “Is it you in the video” Messenger Virus may also make changes in the Hosts file by adding some suspicious-looking IP addresses under Localhost. To check if this is the case in your computer, copy the line below in the Start menu search bar and open the result:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

Then, under Localhost, check for IP addresses that look questionable or unusual and if you find anything disturbing (like on the example image below), please leave us a comment.

    hosts_opt (1)

Next, find Network Connections in the Start menu and open it.

    1. Open the Properties of the Network Adapter you are using by right-clicking on it.
    2. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP) and then click  Properties.
    3. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically if it is not selected and then click on Advanced.
