This page aims to help you remove any virus on a Macbook Pro. Our removal instructions work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows.

Getting your browser hijacked by an app such as Macbook Pro Virus is most definitely something that you wouldn’t want to happen to your browsing program as it could cause a number of unpleasant and oftentimes difficult to remove issues. For starters, a hijacker like this one could alter the way your browser functions by replacing the search tool engine that you normally use and changing the starting page address that your browser used to have. Changes to the toolbar and to the new-tab page are also rather common when a hijacker has gotten itself attached to a certain browser. Aside from the unwanted changes that are likely to make the browser less useful, random ads, pop-ups and page redirects might also start to appear on your screen due to the presence of the unwanted software. Note that this could affect Chrome, IE, Opera, Firefox and pretty much any other browser you might have on your computer. Hijackers are really versatile forms of software and unlike regular browser extensions that are browser-specific, a hijacker could get added to pretty much every browser and be just as effective. Another important trait about these irritating pieces of software has to do with their uninstallation. If you have Macbook Pro Virus on your PC and have already tried to remove it, you’ve most likely come to the conclusion that getting rid of it is quite more difficult than normally uninstalling any other piece of software from your PC. This is because the creators of hijacker apps strive to make them as difficult to remove as possible. The reason for this has to do with the revenue that hijacker developers gain from their products’ ads. The longer a hijacker is able to stay on a given PC, the higher the overall number of the ads it’s allowed to generate and, in turn, the greater the profit from the ads would be. This is basically the whole gist of the agenda of a typical hijacker app like Macbook Pro Virus. The reason we are mainly focusing on this particular hijacker and not any other is because Macbook Pro Virus is currently on a big number of computers and many users are facing problems due to its presence on their PC. Since this is currently one of the more widespread hijackers, we will try to provide you with a reliable way of getting rid of it:

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10). Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Drag and Drop Files Here to Scan
Maximum file size: 128MB.

This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at:

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Open the start menu and search for Network Connections (On Windows 10 you just write it after clicking the Windows button), press enter.

  1. Right-click on the Network Adapter you are using —> Properties —> Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP), click  Properties.
  2. The DNS line should be set to Obtain DNS server automatically. If it is not, set it yourself.
  3. Click on Advanced —> the DNS tab. Remove everything here (if there is something) —> OK.

  • After you complete this step, the threat will be gone from your browsers. Finish the next step as well or it may reappear on a system reboot.

Right click on the browser’s shortcut —> Properties.

NOTE: We are showing Google Chrome, but you can do this for Firefox and IE (or Edge).

More information you need to be aware of about the hijacker category

The intrusiveness of the ads and the unauthorized changes to your browsers aren’t actually the only problematic traits of an app the likes of Macbook Pro Virus. While a typical hijacker is very different from a virus program such as a Trojan Horse or a Ransomware infection, which could indeed cause a lot of problems, you should still not let your guard down if you know that there is a browser hijacker on your computer. It is always a potential security risk if there’s some software piece on your machine that spams you with endless streams of adverts since the displayed ads might at times be hazardous. What we mean by that is there’s always a certain chance that an ad you see on your browser isn’t actually what it presents itself to be. For all you know, the next piece of advertising content that the hijacker puts on your screen through your browser might be a redirect link to some nasty illegal webpage that might infect you with insidious malware threats (like Ransomware, Rootkits, Spyware, Worms and so on).

Keep your computer system clean and secure!

As we already established, hijackers, though not harmful by themselves, are still unwanted and might still threaten the security of your PC (albeit, indirectly). That’s why, you should make sure you never again get any apps like Macbook Pro Virus on your machine. Now, while you can never be absolutely sure that no hijacker would come to you again, you can significantly decrease the chances of that happening if you make sure to stay away from shady web content, questionable sites and download platforms, spam messages, sketchy e-mails, shady ads and offers or anything else that doesn’t seem reliable to you. Also, it might be worth it to check the Advanced installation settings of programs you are about to install as those settings might hide the presence of bundled bonus apps added to the main program which might sometimes be hijackers.
