What is the .Madek Virus and is it dangerous

Message left from the .Madek virus holding instructions about paying the ransom.

If an insidious malware program named Madek is present in your computer at the moment, the article from this page is something you are highly advised to read. We will tell you about the characteristics of this threat and we will share with you the possible options of you can choose from if your files have gotten locked up by this malware. Since you are reading this, it is likely that Madek has already managed to place your files under its nasty encryption and you are currently unable to open any of the encrypted pieces of data. This is a typical cryptovirus behaviour – it locks the user files in the computer that are likely to be important and then it sends you a message that gets directly show on your screen every time you attempt to open a locked-up file. The message usually reads something along the lines of “Your files have been encrypted by a secure encryption – in order to get them released, you should pay us money following the instructions from this message”. Needless to say, the hackers also provide detailed instructions on how the users are supposed to make their payments so that all the money gets sent to the same place. Following those instructions, however, is not something that we would recommend that you do and here’s why:

What to do with an encrypted .Madek file

Once encrypted the .Madek file will have that extension.

The most obvious reason why you should normally refuse to carry out the payment is because you cannot know if that would yield the desired result. You may send the money following all of the hackers’ instructions to the letter and still receive nothing that would help you restore your files. The hackers may simply be tricking you and trying to deceive you about the existence of a decryption key that could solve your problem. However, it is perfectly possible that as soon as you pay them, the hackers disappear and you never hear from them again. Needless to say, it doesn’t matter if you get your files back or not as far as your money is concerned – any money you send to the hackers is gone for good. The fact that such payments are typically made using BitCoin further ensures that the transaction cannot be traced back to the receivers and that the latter stay anonymous to anyone who may try to find their real identities. This is, in fact, one of the things that allows such hackers to avoid getting brought to justice for their crimes.

Usually, the advisable thing to do in a situation where a virus like MadekBerosuce or Budak has locked your files is to try to remove the cryptovirus. We can help you with this – our instructions in the removal guide for Madek is a good starting point. And after the malware is gone, you can try some of the alternative options of file recovery. There are some such suggestions in a separate section of the guide but we can’t promise anything – try them out and see if they work for you but know that, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the successful data recovery.
