Recently, there’s been an increased amount of attacks from a newly released Ransomware virus. The name of this new threat is “Merry I Love You Bruce” Virus and similarly to most other viruses of this type it is capable of encrypting all of the user’s personal documents, thus rendering them inaccessible. Here, we will attempt to provide our readers with all the important info they might need in order to keep their computers safe from this dangerous piece of malware. In the following article, you will find useful tips, guidelines and pieces of advice that everyone who wants to have a properly protected system should know. If you have landed on this page because your machine has already been invaded by “Merry I Love You Bruce” Virus, we will try to help you remove it with our removal guide manual below. However, we must let you know that the success of the guide might vary depending on the specific situation and in some cases it might not be able to solve the issue. Unfortunately, the Ransomware type of viruses are evolving at a whopping pace and the effectiveness of the different methods used to deal with them cannot be always guaranteed.

Ransomware and antivirus programs

A big issue with this particular type of malware is the fact that it almost always manages to remain under the radar of most conventional antivirus tools. What makes viruses like “Merry I Love You Bruce” so difficult to detect is their unique approach. As we stated earlier in the article, the method of encryption is being used to lock the user’s files. What’s important about encryption processes is that they are actually widely used for data protection and are considered safe since they are not inherently malicious. Hackers who create Ransomware exploit this by making their viruses target the personal files of the user in order to lock them. Since the code used by the Ransomware is available only to the hacker who’s created the virus, the user is unable to open their files after the encryption has been finished. After successfully locking all targeted files, the Ransomware would then notify its victim that a ransom payment needs to be made if the user wants to get they key needed to re-open the files. This is basically what “Merry I Love You Bruce” Virus is all about.

Potential symptoms of the infection

Usually, it is really difficult to spot a Ransomware infection. However, there are still some symptoms that can be observed as long as you are vigilant and attentive enough. Most commonly, a Ransomware virus would require considerable amounts of CPU, RAM and free hard drive space to complete the encryption process. Those are the main signs of the infection that you should be on the lookout for. One other aspect that must be considered is the time it takes for the encryption to be finished. This really depends on how powerful your machine is and how much personal data you have stored on it that the Ransomware needs to lock. Nevertheless, it should still take some time because of the specific way encryption processes work. Note that it is not your original files that get encrypted, but copies of them that have been made by the virus. Only after each file has its encrypted copy, the originals are deleted and with that the encryption process is finished. Because of those copies, during the encryption, you can notice an increase of the hard disk space that is being used. In case you notice the aforementioned signs of a Ransomware attack, disconnect your machine from everything it is connected to and shut it down. After this, call for professional support to help you deal with the problem.

You shouldn’t agree to the ransom!

One of the most frequent questions that we get asked with regards to “Merry I Love You Bruce” Virus is whether or not paying the ransom is a good idea. What we always tell our readers is that paying the ransom holds a considerable risk of you simply throwing your money away. It is not uncommon that a user would agree to make the transfer and never get the code they need to unlock their files. Another important thing that needs to be mentioned is that most hackers prefer the money to be sent in the form of bitcoins. This is an untraceable cryptocurrency and once the ransom is paid, it is practically impossible for the money to be traced back to the blackmailer.

Last, but certainly not least, if you pay the ransom to the cyber-criminal, you would surely encourage them to blackmail more and more people and develop even more advanced forms of Ransomware viruses, which would make the problem even worse in the long run. The course of action that we would advise you to take is to go to our Ransomware removal guide and see if it helps you. It costs nothing to give it a try and is certainly a safer alternative that does not involve having to deal with hackers and cyber-criminals.
