What is Merry_I_Love_You_Bruce Virus and how does it operate?
You really are in trouble if you have been infected with Merry_I_Love_You_Bruce Virus. This Ransomware is one of the latest security threats of this type. It not only heavily compromises your computer, but also encrypts all the valuable data found on it and then asks you to pay a huge amount of money in ransom to get it back. This is a very malicious criminal practice that the cyber criminals use to extort money out of unsuspecting online users – they practically blackmail the victims for their own data. For that, the crooks display a disturbing ransom note on the infected computer’s screen once the encryption of all the files is over. There, they place their ransom demands along with short deadlines for the payment to be made. What is particularly nasty about this Ransomware threat is that the encryption algorithm it uses is so complex, that there is no other option to access and open the encrypted files unless a proper decryption key is applied. That decryption key is usually promised to the victims, in case they strictly follow up with the ransom instructions, however, no guarantee is given for the successful decryption of the locked files.
How could you possibly have been infected?
Merry_I_Love_You_Bruce Virus can usually be found in many web locations. Its creators put a lot of efforts in the successful distribution of the malicious piece and for that, they mask it in various ways. Usually, they may place the Ransomware infection in fake ads, misleading links or compromised web pages and spread it through malvertising, or they may attach it to an email and send it through mass spam email campaigns. In most of the cases, Trojan horse infections can also help Merry_I_Love_You_Bruce Virus to sneak inside your PC undetected and silently perform its malicious encryption. Sometimes, the antivirus software may also fail to detect the threat on time, especially if its virus definitions have not been frequently updated or your system has some security holes. An indication that something is going wrong with your PC may be the high CPU usage and the sudden sluggish performance of your system, however, even these signs may not be accurate enough to catch up with the Ransomware, before it has encrypted all of your files.
You have already been infected – now what?
Being blackmailed for the access of your own data is, with no doubt, a very stressful experience. One could easily get panicked and act impulsively just out of fear not to lose its precious data. However, getting stressed is surely not helping you to deal with the situation at the best possible way. What most of the security experts advise in such situations is to avoid paying the ransom and start looking for other options to deal with the Ransomware. Actually, there are a few good reasons not to give your money to the crooks and our team would give you some of them. First of all, if you think about it, how can you be sure that once you pay the ransom, the crooks will really send you the promised decryption key? Nobody gives you any guarantee for that, let alone that the key may not even work and still leave you with your files encrypted and a few hundred of dollars less in your account. What is even nastier is that you can’t get your money back, because the crooks hide their traces very well from the authorities and they usually ask for the ransom to be paid in Bitcoins, which is a special untraceable cryptocurrency.
Moreover, once your system has been compromised, this means that it is vulnerable to all sorts of malware, viruses and other nasty online threats. Keeping Ransomware on your machine is surely not a good idea and the sooner you remove it from you system, the better. We can help you in that, and if you closely follow the steps in the removal guide that follows, you will be able to get rid of Merry_I_Love_You_Bruce Virus. You can even try to restore some of your encrypted files with the help of the instructions that we have included below. We can’t guarantee that they will work on 100%, but still, they will cost you nothing if you give them a try.
