N43adshostnet.com “Virus” generates annoying ads and mines cryptocurrency without your permission!

N43adshostnet.com is a browser-redirect that belongs to the category of the browser hijackers that affect browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Explorer and others. It hijacks your browser shortly after becoming part of your system and you may not be asked for a direct permission for that. It will mine cryptocurrencies without the knowledge of the affected user. Note, that there is a fairly long list of similar browser hijacking page-redirects, the sole aim of which is to set certain sponsored tools as default search engines and install new homepages or toolbars on your favorite browser. These programs may also perform other quite suspicious and irritating activities. Cyber Security Professionals underline that redirects like N43adshostnet.com “Virus” cannot initiate potentially dangerous activities unlike actual malware programs like Trojans or Ransomware viruses. Here is what a browser hijacker may make you experience at its worst:

  • Use tracking cookies to collect information about your browsing habits;
  • Collect information about your recent browsing activity and use this information to show ads that match your latest search queries and possible personal interests;
  • Set a new search engine as the default search engine, a new new-tab page, and a new home page;
  • Block/reverse your attempts to reset the browser parameters to their original state.
  • Redirect you to various sponsored websites and generate hundreds of aggressively popping banners and notifications all over your screen.

    Apart from the fact that this software may track your online activity and collect information about your browsing, it may also tend to shows annoying ads that we think coud be highly unreliable. You may be prompted to click on certain sales, deals of the day and attractive-looking offers, the origin and legitimacy of which may not be confirmed. In fact, many security researchers warn that typically, the browser hijacker developers do not take responsibility for the content of the ads they promote. They are simply interested in receiving clicks, which are often related to Pay-Per-Click remuneration programs that generate them profits. With this in mind, clicking on sponsored ads, generated by programs like N43adshostnet.com, may not be a good idea. It may eventually bring you malware (such as viruses, Trojans, Ransomware, Spyware) or other nasty computer infections. Knowing the rapid increase of infections through criminal methods like Malvertising, this is a possible scenario, especially if a fake or misleading link manages to sneak inside the ad-streaming that you are exposed to.

Tips for protecting against browser hijackers

It’s no secret that the browser hijackers’ creators usually group their dubious ad-generating applications with normal programs to expand their distribution. In this way, they benefit from less-than-vigilant users who do not pay enough attention to the download/installation process and choose the Recommended or Quick Setup options.

Permission to install a potentially unwanted program (PUP) is usually pre-set and only the Custom/User/Advanced setup settings reveal this information. That’s why you should always choose these settings when you install free software and deny additional apps.
