Is Nengine.dll a virus? Could it cause harm?

When you notice some strange and unwanted activity on your PC, the most natural question that probably comes to your mind is “Could this be a virus?”. Many people struggle with the same question when they notice a program like Nengine.dll on their system because this adware affects their browsers in very noticeable and annoying way. It imposes certain modifications, without asking for permission and forces the users to interact with some sketchy and very intrusive advertisements. It also tends to modify the search results and frequently initiates page redirects to web locations full of aggressive  sponsored messages. Not even a Trojan or a Ransomware virus is so nagging and so aggressive! But, really, how bad an Adware could be?

Fortunately, not so bad at all. Unlike the real malware, a piece like Nengine.dll has little to no harmful effect on the computer. This software typically affects your default browser only and is unlikely to mess up with any other software or data on your machine. Still, most of the users refer to it as potentially unwanted because it often disturbs their normal browsing with hundreds of ads. The people usually complain that the adware forces them to interact with various types of promotional and advertising content, which has nothing to do with their actual searches and redirects them to different unfamiliar web locations. This, indeed, could be a good reason for them to want to remove it. Still, this is the worst that the adware is capable of because its main purpose is to advertise, not to cause harm or damage your system. If a malware like a Trojan, a Spyware, or a Ransomware virus infects you, the case would be completely different. Such viruses would definitely perform something harmful and can launch various criminal activities, the effects of which could result in total corruption of the system and destruction of your data.
