The article we are sharing with you today is all about Nm4 Ransomware: a member of the Ransomware virus family. This term refers to the type of software that is able to encrypt your data or lock your screen. Following that, these viruses are likely to harass you by showing you some disturbing ransom requests. Inside them you can find all the payment information that you need in order to give in to the requests of the hackers. We have assembled this article with the hope to help you successfully deal with Nm4 Ransomware without having to resort to the ransom payment. Sometimes it’s possible, more often it’s not, however, all you have to do is to try.

The ways Ransomware viruses normally act

If we talk in general, whatever these malicious programs are actually set to do, their effects are usually pretty much the same all the time, depending on what kind of Ransomware you have been infected by. The primary goal of this malware is to invade your computer, do something illegal and disturbing, and demand that you pay the hackers behind it to reverse whatever malicious processes it has conducted.

  • What happens when we talk about Nm4 Ransomware in particular is that you will have to deal with a contamination, launched by the file-encrypting subcategory of Ransomware. Consequently, some of your files are going to get encrypted and a ransom is going to be requested in exchange for making these files available to you again. Generally, such viruses are able to render all the data you deem important fully inaccessible to you. Following this, you are going to get informed about that via a ransom-demanding alert, in which the only potential method of setting your files free is paying the wanted ransom.
  • Another terrible infection may occur when you catch a representative of the screen-blocking Ransomware subgroup. Such viruses may be further divided into mobile-device affecting ones; and the actual PC-monitor-blocking ones. In this case, NO files get encoded, simply the icons and shortcuts on your monitor are made inaccessible, due to a large notifications appearing on your screen and hiding them. Nonetheless, a ransom is going to be required by the hackers again for the removal of this annoying pop-up and setting your desktop free.

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Catching Nm4 Ransomware – how is that possible?

Below you are going to get acquainted with the most popular sources of Ransomware:

  • Unwanted/unknown emails (and their attachments): Spam emails are usually the most common Ransomware source. If you catch Nm4 Ransomware from such an email (or an attachment), it is possible to have come to your PC accompanied by a Trojan horse virus. The manner in which these two malware versions help each other out is the following: the Trojan version aids the Ransomware by exploiting a system/program weakness, and letting the latter into your system.
  • Malicious advertisements and requests displayed on your screen: Nm4 Ransomware could automatically invade your system if the virus is coming from an infected ad, fake system request or pop-up of any sort, broadcast on your monitor. If you click on any of them, even unknowingly or unintentionally, your computer is very likely to become a victim of this malware.
  • Video/movie, program and torrent-distributing platforms: Despite the fact that all web pages you visit might be contaminated, the ones that illegally share movies, software and other content are among the usual Ransomware sources.

What are you supposed to do in case of such a horrible infection? To pay or not to pay?

In truth, there is no right answer to this question, and you will have to decide on your own. Furthermore, no matter what you choose to do – to pay or not to pay, is going to represent a great risk, as both of the solutions can’t guarantee the decryption of your blocked data or a complete removal of the virus. What you have to do if you don’t want to finance the illegal harassing activities of the hackers bothering you is to look for other possibilities. One of them is trying out the instructions in the Removal Guide we have attached – they are designed to help you delete the virus from your machine and potentially also restore the encrypted data. One more thing is to look for a good anti-Ransomware piece of software, although, we do not recommend simply downloading such a tool. Use the ones which are tested and proven effective. What’s more, be extremely careful and prevent your system from catching such a virus in the future by visiting only web sites with a good and reliable reputation and avoiding all the possible sources of Ransomware that we described above.
