Npsk Virus

Npsk

Npsk is referred to as a ransomware virus, and it is one of the latest variants of this malware category. Npsk encrypts the files on the computers it infects, thus robbing its victims of their access to said files.

Npsk

Once the Npsk Virus has finished encrypting your files it will leave behind _readme.txt

Victims are typically notified about this process through a ransom note that the virus publishes in the folders containing encrypted data, as well as on the computer desktop – where you won’t be able to miss it. This happens immediately as soon as the ransomware has completed its dirty business. And usually aside from the informative part, the note will also include some form of an ultimatum from the hackers behind Npsk.

The ultimatum, revolves around the decryption key that the hackers are in possession of and claim to be the only way you’d be able to access your files again. However, that doesn’t necessarily have to be true. In reality, there are other possible ways at your disposal that could get you your data back. And for your convenience, we have included a list of them in the second part of the removal guide below. So, after you have removed Npsk from your PC, you will be able to give those a try. But we should warn you that neither the ransom payment, nor the alternatives offer a 100% guarantee for the recovery of your files. This is in part why ransomware viruses are considered among the most devastating types of malware out there.

The Npsk virus

The Npsk virus belongs to the file-encrypting subcategory of ransomware. As such, the Npsk virus uses a strong encryption algorithm to lock victim users out of their own data.

After the virus has encrypted the files in question, they become unreadable to any type of software. And, as a result, you can end up losing critical data. What’s more, this very instance of encryption is what also ensures that this malware type isn’t bothered by even some of the most powerful antivirus programs on the market.

As encryption isn’t in and of itself some kind of harmful or malicious process, it simply won’t trigger your antivirus software in the vast majority of cases. That’s in addition to the fact that encryption is so commonplace, that we’d be nowhere if our antivirus would constantly be trying to block it every time we try to use it. For instance, we wouldn’t be able to check our emails, transfer money, shop online, etc.

The Npsk file encryption

The Npsk file encryption process is tedious and can often take up to several hours to complete. Nevertheless, usually the Npsk file encryption runs without any symptoms and therefore most users remain oblivious to it until it’s already too late.

What you can do to protect yourself from ransomware attacks like this in the future is to regularly create backups of your most important data and store copies of it on a different drive. Make sure also that this drive is not always connected to a computer or to any network.
