Oodrampi

Oodrampi is a browser hijacking application that may prevent you from using your default web browser normally. For instance, Oodrampi may alter the homepage and the search engine and may cause browsing interruptions by displaying hard-to-remove ads, pop-ups and banners on your screen.

Apps like this one are not identical to computer viruses and lack the harmfulness that is typical for Ransomware, Trojans and other malware. However, many users consider them as unwanted and seek ways to successfully uninstall them from their system.

Usually, browser hijackers such as Oodrampi , iStart Search Bar and Agafurretor can get attached to different web browsers without the users’ consent. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari become usual targets, as these are the most common browsers. However, other browsing apps may also be hijacked without a second notice.

And when the hijacker joins the browsing application, a new search engine will typically be introduced and a new homepage or a new tab page may greet the user from the screen. These browser changes are typically accompanied by a stream of aggressive pop-up ads, banner notifications, redirect links and click prompts that promote different services, products and programs. The final result of the hijacking is that the affected browser becomes an ad-generating tool that displays sponsored advertisements and promotional links that redirect users to specific websites.

Apps like Oodrampi seeks to take over as many web browsers as possible through the above-mentioned changes in order to be able to generate income for their developers from remuneration models such as Pay-Per-Click and Pay-Per-View.

In general, nothing that the browser hijackers can do will damage your computer or affect it in a serious way.  Your data, your online accounts and your software won’t be destroyed or corrupted if you have an app like Oodrampi inside your system. Nevertheless, keeping a hijacker on the machine you are using may potentially lead to a close encounter with various security hazards, including Ransomware, Trojans, Spyware and other viruses. Furthermore, it may be rather unbearable to constantly deal with the discomfort arising from the unstoppable ads and the search engine, homepage and toolbar modifications that such applications may impose. That is why most of the users who have a program like Oodrampi in their browsers prefer to simply remove it and uninstall all of its changes from their browser.

How you actually got Oodrampi ?

Oodrampi is a very recent piece of software that typically gets distributed as a free app or browser component along with other free software and attractive program bundles. You may not recall downloading this software yourself because browser hijackers like this one are typically “hidden” in other software installer archives.

We say “hidden” because some browser hijackers are likely to be introduced as bonus components which may not be clearly disclosed in the setup packages of the programs you want to install. In most cases, they are only visible in the Custom/Advanced Configuration Settings of the installer. However, most people never (if ever) click these settings and this is how they indirectly allow apps like Oodrampi to get installed along with the main software without knowing it.

Uninstalling a browser hijacker, however, may become a hassle if you don’t know how to properly remove it. Thus, it is recommended that you follow specific steps (such as those that you will find in the removal guide below) or simply use a professional removal tool that can clean your system.

Remove Oodrampi Virus

To try and remove Oodrampi quickly you can try this:

1. Go to your browser’s settings and select More Tools (or Add-ons, depending on your browser).
2. Then click on the Extensions tab.
3. Look for the Oodrampi extension (as well as any other unfamiliar ones).
4. Remove Oodrampi by clicking on the Trash Bin icon next to its name.
5. Confirm and get rid of Oodrampi and any other suspicious items.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10). Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders. 

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections. 

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Open the start menu and search for Network Connections (On Windows 10 you just write it after clicking the Windows button), press enter.

1. Right-click on the Network Adapter you are using —> Properties —> Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP), click  Properties.
2. The DNS line should be set to Obtain DNS server automatically. If it is not, set it yourself.
3. Click on Advanced —> the DNS tab. Remove everything here (if there is something) —> OK.

• After you complete this step, the threat will be gone from your browsers. Finish the next step as well or it may reappear on a system reboot.

Right click on the browser’s shortcut —> Properties.

NOTE: We are showing Google Chrome, but you can do this for Firefox and IE (or Edge).

Properties —–> Shortcut. In Target, remove everything after .exe.

  Remove Oodrampi  from Internet Explorer:

Open IE, click   —–> Manage Add-ons.

Find the threat —> Disable. Go to  —–> Internet Options —> change the URL to whatever you use (if hijacked) —> Apply.

 Remove Oodrampi  from Firefox:

Open Firefox, click    ——-> Add-ons —-> Extensions.

Remove Oodrampi  from Chrome:

Close Chrome. Navigate to:

 C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data. There is a Folder called “Default” inside:

Rename it to Backup Default. Restart Chrome.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter.

Inside, press CTRL and F together and type the threat’s Name. Right click and delete any entries you find with a similar name. If they don’t show up this way, go manually to these directories and delete/uninstall them:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory. It could be any one of them – ask us if you can’t discern which ones are malicious.
  HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
  HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random
