The name of the new Hijacker is Point.LotusILoveYou.com “Virus” and it is known to integrate itself within the user’s Chrome, Firefox or IE browser and install new search engines, toolbars as well as change the homepage of the browser. A lot of users are also complaining about unpleasant page redirects that, too, are being caused by the unwanted application. Removing such a program from one’s PC is actually not all that difficult as long as the user is aware of the different steps that need to be completed. If you are currently struggling with Point.LotusILoveYou.com “Virus”, we can help you uninstall it and fully get rid of it by giving you our removal manual that can be found down below. Follow the steps described there and you should be able to eliminate the nagging Hijacker in no time.

Malware

Malware is a general term used to describe any kind of harmful and dangerous software. Many people believe that Browser Hijackers, too, fall under this category due to the fact that they are able to execute tasks on the user’s PC that are rather unpleasant and could cause certain issue. While this is not false,it is important to note that a Browser Hijacker and an actual computer virus are two very different things. While the former is mainly used for advertising purposes, the latter is always aimed at causing some sort of damage or messing with the user’s personal data and virtual privacy. Surely, Point.LotusILoveYou.com “Virus” might be extremely invasive and annoying, but it’s primary purpose usually is to generate income via online marketing. The same cannot be said about actual software threats the likes of Ransomware or Trojans – those are the ones you should really be concerned with if they get onto your PC. Of course, this does not mean that a Hijacker program is absolutely safe and risk-free. Read our next paragraph in order to learn what potential issues one might encounter if their computer has been invaded by Point.LotusILoveYou.com “Virus”.

The problem with Hijackers

Browser Hijackers are not only annoying, but they can also have a number of negative effects on your computer that you should be aware of. Even though applications that fall under the Hijacker category are not real viruses, they are also something that we’d certainly not advise you to keep on your PC.

  • For starters, a program the likes of Point.LotusILoveYou.com “Virus” could potentially start to generate fake warnings and notifications that tell you there’s something wrong with your machine. This is done with the sole purpose of advertising some other shady piece of software that is probably paid. All in all, the “warning” is basically an aggressive advertising method that is very typical for programs of the Hijacker type.
  • Next, it is possible that the Hijacker will try to introduce alterations to some of your registry keys or even add new ones to your Registry. This helps the unwanted program to be more effective when generating shady ads and messing with your browser in general. This, however, could also potentially make your whole system more vulnerable to more serious threats such as, for example, the infamous Ransomware type of malware.
  • Hijackers are also known to affect the overall performance of computers that are not very powerful. It is easy to see why as those unwanted programs oftentimes require significant amounts of system resources such as RAM and CPU. However, it is also possible that the unpleasant software might render the whole system unstable and prone to experience freezes and crashes.

Other issues can occur as well. Those were only the most commonly encountered ones.

How to maintain a safe and secure PC

It is not that difficult of a task to keep your computer protected against minor inconveniences such as Browser Hijackers. You just need to remember and employ several important rules that we will now present you with.

  • First of all, make sure that when browsing the Internet, you only go to websites that do not have obscure and shady content such as a lot of banners, pop-up ads, etc., since such marketing materials are often used for Hijacker distribution.
  • Next, beware of any suspicious e-mails or other online messages that contain links or file attachments because they could be spam that carries the unwanted software.
  • Thirdly, it is advisable to get some form of specialized anti-malware tool to help you protect your machine.
  • Finally, try to always use the custom installation settings when attempting to install some new program, especially if the said program is free. This is because oftentimes Browser Hijacker are bundled with such freeware programs and are getting installed alongside them. TO prevent that from happening, you’d need to see all the options in the installation wizard and figure out if there are any bundled applications. If you find anything that’s been added, look it up to see if it is potentially unwanted and if it turns out to be an undesirable software, leave it out of the installation process by simply unchecking it in the setup wizard.
