Pushnott
Pushnott is one of the latest browser hijackers to be released on users yet. Pushnott targets most popular web browsing programs such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge and others.
The reason why it is known as a browser hijacker is that once it becomes incorporated into your system, it will immediately also embed itself in the main browser and start tampering with its settings. Hence, you may start noticing rather drastic changes to your main web browser’s interface. For example, Pushnott may add a new toolbar or other elements to it. But most significantly, it will likely introduce a new homepage and quite possibly also a new default search engine. Browser hijackers are still considered to be potentially unwanted programs, partially because of them being associated with the risk of unintentional exposure to malware and viruses. If you don’t want to waste a lot of time getting rid of Pushnott , you can try to find and remove the extensions that are linked to it from the hijacked browser.
In order to do that, you first need to open the browser that you’re having trouble with, click on its main menu icon (top right), and then choose More Tools (or Add-ons).
Next, look for the tab called Extensions and click on it to see what it looks like. There, you should be able to see a list of all the extensions that are already on your browser.
You should look for extensions that you think are causing problems with your web browsing and remove them by clicking on the “remove” button next to them.
Soon after you finish that, restart the browser to see how things work. Pushnott might not bother you anymore if you follow these steps. But don’t get desperate if it doesn’t work. In order to open the Windows Task Manager, you’ll need to press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time.
When you’re done, go to the Processes Tab and then click on it (on Win 8 and 10 it is called the “Details” Tab).
Once you get there, be very careful when you scroll through the list of processes. You want to look for a process that is linked to Pushnott and its ad-generating and page-redirecting activity.
As soon as you find a process like this, right-click it and choose the Open File Location option. This will let you see the files that it has.
The best way to see if the files are dangerous is to drag and drop them into the free virus scanner below.
Afterward, it will be easy to figure out if the process you’ve selected is dangerous and should be stopped or not. To end a process, right-click on it and choose “End Process.” Also, go to the file location folder and get rid of the dangerous files and their folders there.
The file scanning method can be used for any process you think is part of the browser hijacker or something else that isn’t quite trustworthy.
In this step, press the Windows and R keys at the same time. This will open a Run dialog box. Type appwiz.cpl, then click the OK button:
A Control Panel window with a list of all the programs you have on your computer will show up on the screen. Carefully look through the list of programs to see if there is a new app that could be linked to the installation of Pushnott on your computer. A good idea is to get rid of this program if you find one. When you remove all of its entries from the computer, you won’t have any files that can be used to reinstall the hijacker program.
Next, open System Configuration In order to check the Startup tab. You can type msconfig in the Windows search field and select the result.
Start-Up Items that are clearly linked to Pushnott and its activities should not be checked. Also, remove the checkmark for any other entries that look suspicious or have “Unknown” Manufacturer.

Use the Windows and R keys together to open a new Run dialog box on the screen, then copy the following line in it:
notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts
If you click OK, this should open a file called “Hosts” on the screen. It’s important to search for “Localhost” in the text and look for suspicious IP addresses like those shown on this picture:

Next, from the Start menu, go to Network Connections (you can search for it in the Windows search field to save time). After that, you can right-click on your Network Adapter and choose Properties from the menu.
Find Internet Protocol Version 4, then highlight it, and click Properties as shown in image.
Take a look and make sure the option to Obtain a DNS server address automatically is checked. If it isn’t, choose it and then click on Advanced.
In the DNS tab, click the Remove button to remove everything that has been added there as a rogue DNS. To save your changes, click the OK button and close the window.

In the first place, right-click on the shortcut icon for the browser. Then, click on the Properties option.
NOTE: The instructions below show how to clean Google Chrome, but they can also be used with Firefox, IE (or Edge), or any other browser that is affected.
In the Properties window, select the Shortcut tab and then click on it.
You then need to remove everything after “.exe” and then click on the OK button to save your changes.
Internet Explorer users can click on the gear icon top right and choose the Manage Add-ons option from the slide down menu.
Once you’re on the Add-ons page, make sure to DISABLE any add-ons that are causing your browser to behave strangely, and then click OK.
Then, click on the gear icon once again, but this time choose the Internet Options. Make sure to change the homepage address if Pushnott has changed it to one of its sponsored URLs. Then, apply the changes and enjoy your new homepage address!
If you have a Firefox browser, click on the tree vertical lines icon top right, then click on Add-ons. Then select extensions on the left and remove any extensions that you don’t use or think are making your browsing slower.
Quit the Chrome browser in case that is open and manually navigate to the following location on your computer:
C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data.
When you find the “Default” folder, change its name to “Backup Default“. Save it with that name, then restart the browser to get it to work again.
One more thing that you need to do is to check the Registry for files that Pushnott might have added in there it without your permission. There is an easy way to do that: type Regedit in the Windows search bar and then press Enter. Use Find (CTRL and F) to look for Pushnott . Simply write the name of the hijacker in the Find box and click on Find Next. Right-click to delete anything that’s found.
Each of the directories below should also be checked for hijacker-related entries that need to be removed.
