This page aims to help you remove Ranion Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any .ransom file can be recovered.

Ransomware is a devastating category of malware viruses that has become a major software threat throughout the past couple of years. The most typical trait of Ransomware is the ability of such viruses to stealthily infiltrate the user’s PC and then lock the files on the computer or directly make the whole machine inaccessible. The idea behind such a lockdown is that this would give the cyber criminals a leverage over their victims upon which they’d be able to blackmail the unfortunate users into making ransom transaction to them. According to the hackers who use Ransomware, if the payment is carried out, the users would be able to restore their access to the locked-up files or to their computer (depending on what’s been locked). Today, in this article, we will give you information about Ranion – a cryptovirus Ransomware that encrypts the user’s files and then demands a ransom payment by generating a note on the infected computer after the process of encrypting the targeted data has been completed. Here, you will be able to learn more about this particular threat as well as about the malware group as a whole – know that it is very important to be well informed about Ransomware if you are to keep your computer and files protected against it. Bear in mind that due to the highly-sophisticated methods of creating such viruses, most newer Ransomware versions are highly advanced and due to that, there’s oftentimes no effective solution for dealing with them which further increases the importance of being able to fend them off before they have made it inside your system.

Distributors of Ransomware

Shady sites, illegal pages, spam e-mails, malvertising, phishing, different social engineering techniques online and various other similar methods are used for spreading malware viruses like Ranion Ransomware. If you wish you have a safe and clean computer that doesn’t get attacked by such malicious programs, you’d need to be really careful and always use your common sense every time you go online. Anything that looks shady that you see on the Internet is to be avoided. Also, in case you don’t already have an antivirus, make sure to get one and keep it updated at all times – it can help you detect and eliminate various malware threats such as Trojans that can be used as a backdoor into your PC for Ransomware. Also, having a backup of your important and valued data is crucial if you want to make sure that even in case a Ransomware strikes, you’d still have safe copies of your files in a location that the virus won’t be able to reach.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Step3

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

msconfig_opt

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Step4

WARNING!
To remove parasite, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. Making a mistake and deleting the wrong thing may damage your system.
Avoid this by using SpyHunter - a professional Parasite removal tool.

Keep in mind, SpyHunter’s malware & virus scanner is free. To remove the infection, you'll need to purchase its full version. More information about SpyHunter and steps to uninstall.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press EnterOnce inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name.

Search for the ransomware  in your registries and delete the entries. Be extremely careful –  you can damage your system if you delete entries not related to the ransomware.

Type each of the following in the Windows Search Field:

  1. %AppData%
  2. %LocalAppData%
  3. %ProgramData%
  4. %WinDir%
  5. %Temp%

Delete everything in Temp. The rest just check out for anything recently added. Remember to leave us a comment if you run into any trouble!

How to Decrypt Ranion files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!

If Ranion has attacked you

In case you have already gotten your machine infiltrated by Ranion, we can offer you a guide that contains instructions on how to remove it. We highly recommend that you refer to these instructions to try to get rid of the malware. We can’t guarantee that they will be effective due to the specific nature of Ransomware and also because Ranion is one of the newest and likely one of the most advanced viruses of this category. Still, you ought to make sure that you have tried every possible alternative before even considering the ransom payment as an option. Remember, the hackers who have locked your files are after your money and nothing else – they don’t really care about whether you get your files back or not. Due to this, many users who have agreed to pay and have made the money transfer have actually been left with no means to recover their data. Also, if nothing else works, you can still always try this and hope for the best.

Cryptovirus encryption

The problem with cryptovirus Ransomware is that, due to the nature of the encryption process, detecting and dealing with such viruses is made even more difficult. First of all, because of the “harmless” nature of this process (it doesn’t actually harm or corrupt anything on your system), a lot of security programs are likely to be rendered unable to detect the malware as they wouldn’t mark the ongoing encryption as a threat. The next important thing about encrypted files is that, even if the source of the encryption – the Ransomware virus, gets removed from the system, the data would still be locked until e decryption key is used to unlock it or until the files are restored in some other way. This means that not only do you need to eliminate the virus but you’d also need to figure out a way to recover the files that it has locked. The guide that we offer you down below includes a separate section where we have covered potential data restoration methods that you can make use of – just remember that we can give you no promise as to if and how many of the files you’d be able to bring back. Still, as we already pointed out, it is nevertheless much better to try such alternative methods instead of directly agreeing to execute the demanded payment.
