This page aims to help you remove Regardensy “Virus”. Our removal instructions work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows.

Many different browser extensions are created every day to improve the functionality of your Chrome, Firefox, IE, Opera or any other browser application you might have chosen to use. Some claim to make your web surfing better by providing you with different features while others are supposed to take care of your online safety. There are certainly very useful browser add-ons with multiple features out there but there are also some browser components which may not be so helpful. The later are usually categorized as browser hijackers, and a lot of security experts refer to them as potentially unwanted. Such browsing components tend to install some new search engines, toolbars, or homepage settings, usually without your direct approval, and they often try to show you targeted search results and redirect you to sponsored pages full of annoying ads. In the text that follows, we are going to talk about one particular browser hijacker called Regardensy “Virus”, which usually does exactly that once it becomes part of your system. Below, you will find answers to the most important questions such as how this hijacker gets installed, whether it is dangerous, where it spreads and how to safely uninstall it. You are also going to find a detailed Removal Guide and a professional Regardensy removal tool, both of which can help you effectively remove the potentially unwanted component and all of its changes from your favorite browser. The reason we have provided you with all this information in this article is that quite a lot of users have recently complained about the disturbance that this browser hijacker has caused to their normal web surfing. If you are facing the same issue because Regardensy has invaded your default browser, just read the following paragraphs and use the instructions, which our “How to remove” team has posted below.

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10). Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Drag and Drop Files Here to Scan
Maximum file size: 128MB.

This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at:

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Open the start menu and search for Network Connections (On Windows 10 you just write it after clicking the Windows button), press enter.

  1. Right-click on the Network Adapter you are using —> Properties —> Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP), click  Properties.
  2. The DNS line should be set to Obtain DNS server automatically. If it is not, set it yourself.
  3. Click on Advanced —> the DNS tab. Remove everything here (if there is something) —> OK.

  • After you complete this step, the threat will be gone from your browsers. Finish the next step as well or it may reappear on a system reboot.

Right click on the browser’s shortcut —> Properties.

NOTE: We are showing Google Chrome, but you can do this for Firefox and IE (or Edge).

Regardensy brings web promoting to the next level of intrusiveness!

Browsing the Internet while at the same time getting constantly interrupted by various annoying ads, pop-ups, banners and sudden redirects is an experience that nobody would find enjoyable. Sadly, this is something that cannot be avoided completely because the online advertising industry has its ways to flood your screen with ads and expose you to sponsored content even if you don’t want that to happen. In fact, applications like Regardensy are created with exactly that purpose. They take the advertising to the next level by hijacking your browser and making changes to its settings in order to generate and display certain sponsored commercial content. Such applications are categorized as browser hijackers and the online adverts, pop-ups, banners, new tabs and annoying on-screen messages that you are have been seeing recently are all likely the result of the hijacker’s work. When Regardensy, or a similar ad-generating component, integrates with your browsing app, it forces your browser to favor certain sites, offers, products and tools, and tries to redirect you to different sponsored pages as often as possible. What is more, this software usually tries to “learn” more about your interests and preferences in order to redirect you to the most relevant ads. Therefore, it often launches a data tracking process which keeps a record of your recent searches, bookmarks, likes, online shares, most visited pages and similar browsing-related data. Once collected, this valuable marketing data is send to the interested advertising agencies and marketers, which usually pay a good amount of money for it to the hijacker’s creators. After analyzing your interests, these same advertisers usually pay the hijacker developers to display relevant ads through the hijacker with the hope to promote their items and make more sales.

Such activity is typically not harmful to your PC and cannot be compared to the damage that a real virus (like a Ransomware or a Trojan horse infection) could cause. However, it could be quite irritating, which is exactly why a lot of users want to uninstall the browser hijacker from their machines. Also, apart from the irritation, there is always a chance of clicking on some potentially hazardous advert (many hackers often hide their viruses in random web ads) or getting redirected to an inappropriate web page, which may be infected. This is yet another good reason to remove an application like Regardensy from your system.

How is Regardensy getting distributed?

Applications like Regardensy are not seen as computer threats and, therefore, they may often have official websites from which they can be downloaded. Such browser hijackers may also often get distributed in a bundle with some other applications and free setup installers, which the users may download from torrent, freeware or shareware platforms. Spam messages, email letters, and sites with low-reputation may also offer you to install a browser hijacker for free (of course, without actually telling you that the suggested app is a hijacker), so make sure to avoid such sources if you don’t want to land yourself with annoying ad-generating components like Regardensy. In fact, if you want to install a new program on your PC, our advice is to always read the EULA and to opt for the Advanced/Manual installation options, which can give you full control over the setup process. This way, you can see and disable any application with suspicious features or components that suggest installing a new homepage or a search engine on your browser.
