Ads by Man is a virus of the adware class that should be deleted immediately from your PC. To that effect, the removal instructions below should be clear and easy to follow. However, Ads by man is hard to uninstall effectively and will keep regenerating unless you do everything to the letter. If you want this virus gone for good read carefully. Our article has one more consideration though – to teach you how these things operate and what’s the best thing to do if you want to keep your machine safe in the future. We’ll begin with:
A short overview of Ads by Man and adware in general
Ads by Man’s main function is to generate unwanted spam messages and pop-ups commonly named ads. These may come in the form of traditional offers for discounts and best deals, but may also take other forms, like:
- Missing plug-ins that need to be installer.
- Empty video windows that need something installed before you can view the video
- Free software downloads. Things like virus scanners often used as bait.
- Outdated programs need to be updated – like Flash or Java.
Make no mistake, every single item out of this list will be a virus. Actually many viruses spread and operate around the web using these tricks or similar ones.
REMEMBER! Never download and install programs that you didn’t download from the official developer list. Any file that ends with an .exe is probably not the book, movie or song you want – it’s a program and potentially a virus.
Even the normal ads themselves are not safe. In fact, they are likely not even real. They are generated by Ads by Man on your own CPU and tailor to your interests, because Ads by Man also analyzes browser&search histories to gauge your hobbies. Rendering the ads will cause slowdowns on your processor, which are more evident on older or slower models. The hyperlinks behind the ads will lead to fraudulent sites, which may look real, but their only goal is to rob you of money. Anything offered for free and even trial is, of course, a virus.
Two very popular dirty tricks
That is the so-called program bundles. These days it is customary for developers to include additional apps and utilities with the installer of their main product. These extras are there for promotional purposes and should be harmless /even though they cause unnecessary program clutter/. Unfortunately, especially with free programs, the extras may be Adware. For this reason we recommend skipping the default installation and sticking to the advanced one. It not only shows you what exactly is getting installed, but also gives you the option to deny installation on anything that is not the main application.
Another trick comes with fake torrent/download sites. They’ll spawn files that match whatever you searched for, but these files will be viruses. Telling fake from real sites mostly comes from experience, but viruses have a very easy tell – they are .exe files. Think about what should be the extension of your file before downloading and opening anything coming out of a download/torrent site!

Viruses often spend one last ditch effort to trick you into installing more of their kind. If you see a screen like this when you click Uninstall, choose NO:
This is perhaps the most important and difficult step, so be extremely careful. Open the Task Manager by right clicking on the Taskbar and choosing Start Task Manager.
Once it opens, choose the Processes Tab. Look at all of the processes in front of you and try to determine which ones are a virus. Google them or ask us in the comments and we will provide the best assistance we can. If the virus returns later on, the reason is that you missed something here.
Right click on each of the virus processes separately and select Open File Location. Also, End the process after you open the folder. Just to make sure we don’t delete any programs you mistakenly took for a virus, copy the folders somewhere, then delete the directories you were sent to.
We’ve had reports that this virus can come back after you uninstall it. This usually takes place on system boot. If this happens, do the following:
Type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter.
Once inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name. Right click and delete any entries you find with a similar name. Alternatively, if you can’t find any this way, look in these directories, and delete the registries manually:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random numbers
HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random
