Hello and welcome to another article of our adware removal series. Today I’ve set my eyes on Crazy Score Ads. Granted, it might not be the most dangerous virus out there, but its annoying and since you area reading this article you probably want it removed. But before heading to the removal guide at the bottom please take a few minute break and read the article in full. Hopefully by the end you’ll have a decent idea how you got infected in the first place and what to do to avoid the same situation in the future.
A quick overview
As an adware, Crazy Score Ads has one job and it does it quite well – to spam your browser with advertisements. These ads are actually generated by Crazy Score Ads itself on your CPU and the links themselves will lead to all kings of (dangerous) sites. Because of the extra draw from the virus you may be experiencing general slowdown on your computer – how much depending on the CPU’s age and speed. If the adds seems appealing its because they are tailored to your interests, Crazy Score Ads reads your browser’s history and search logs and attempts to generate plausible results. These can also include some the following:
- Some kind of “best” deal
- Offers for free app downloads, maybe even anti-malware
- Prompts to update missing plug-ins or install required video players to view something
Do not get tempted to explore any option offered by Crazy Score Ads! All of these will either waste your time, attempts to trick you into giving them money or install more malware on your computer.
- What you should do is ignore everything and close all windows with ads. If you did already download something terminate the installation with the task manager and then delete the downloaded file.

How Crazy Score Ads came to be on your computer
Adware of this type mostly rely on the PC owner to install them, usually masquerading as something legitimate before that. This means that they pose very little danger to people who are familiar with them. Below are listed the most common methods of spreading Crazy Score Ads and other adware.
- With free programs and utilities – free stuff may not come with a price tag, but there’s still a catch involved and this catch is often adware. Adware developers actually pay other developers money to include the adware into the installer of the main program as an “extra”. The good thing here is that usually there is the option to install the main program you want without the added “bonus” adware. To achieve this always go for the advanced installation and deny any additional programs to be installed.
- With fake download/torrent sites – these actually copy your search terms and generate a file with the same name, hitting 100% match and appearing on Google first or second page. The file is a virus. Spot these by looking for the file extension. If it ends with .exe (or is an archive with .exe file inside)

You are now in the Control Panel. Search around for Crazy Score Ads and anything else suspicious-looking. Uninstall it/them. Also, be extremely careful. Viruses often spend one last ditch effort to trick you into installing more of their kind. If you see a screen like this when you click Uninstall, choose NO:
This is perhaps the most important and difficult step, so be extremely careful. Open the Task Manager by right clicking on the Taskbar and choosing Start Task Manager.
Once it opens, choose the Processes Tab. Look at all of the processes in front of you and try to determine which ones are a virus. Google them or ask us in the comments and we will provide the best assistance we can. If the virus returns later on after you supposedly removed it, the reason is that you missed something here.
Right click on each of the virus processes separately and select Open File Location. Also, End the process after you open the folder. Just to make sure we don’t delete any programs you mistakenly took for a virus, copy the folders somewhere, then delete the directories you were sent to.
