What is Delta Search?

Delta Search is a newly released browser add-on/plug-in of the Browser Hijackers type. Browser Hijackers are programs that start generating different ads (pop-ups, banners, box messages etc.) once you open your browser. Their somewhat intrusive behaviour and in some cases stealth installation make both experts and regular users consider them unwanted. Usually the programs themselves are not harmful for your PC. Their main purpose is to generate those ads, which gain revenue for whoever developed them. Since Delta Search is considered an Browser Hijackers, it shares most of its characteristics with the rest of the Browser Hijackers programs.

As already mentioned, the reason why this browser add-on is considered unwanted, is due the intrusive nature of the ads that it generates. Once installed on your PC, the annoying software will flood all of your browsers with its various obstructive pop-ups. They will keep appearing on your screen as long as your browser remains open. Sometimes, closing one add will result in the opening of another, which can become really frustrating with time and ultimately ruin your online experience. This applies to most known browsers, notably Mozilla, Chrome, IE, Opera etc. Switching between them won’t stop the generation of the pop-ups, so don’t bother. The only way to stop them is to remove the intrusive software from your PC. You will learn how to do that in our guide below this article but before you go and do that – there are some more thing that you may want to know about Delta Search.

So far, it should be quite clear why Delta Search is something you wouldn’t want getting installed on your PC. However, many people mistakenly think this is an actual virus – it is not. Browser Hijacker programs are not viruses. There are major differences between these two terms. First of all, viruses are illegal – Browser Hijackers, for the most part, are legal and distributed via legal methods. Secondly, viruses are undoubtedly harmful for your PC and will endanger your online security – once you have one on your machine, you should seek help from an IT specialist as soon as possible. Browser Hijackers, on the other hand, are not like that – they are relatively safe for your system and usually do not pose any immediate threat to it. Also, if you have a Browser Hijacker installed, you can be quite confident, that you can deal with it on your own, without the need for professional assistance.

All of this being said, Delta Search still remains an unwanted program and though relatively harmless, you still need to keep in mind that it may potentially expose your PC to an actual danger.

You see, the ads displayed may sometimes redirect you to an illegal page that could serve as a gateway for real viruses. This happens rarely. In most cases the ads are safe. Still, we advise you to avoid interacting with them, because you never know what might wait for you on the other side. There is no need to expose your PC to any risks. Also, you probably won’t gain anything useful from those ads anyway.

Distribution methods

There are several main ways for Delta Search to get installed on your machine

Through torrent files.

Through file-sharing sites.

Via spam e-mails.

By being bundled with free programs that can be acquired online.

Avoiding the first two is all about common sense. Just don’t visit any shady sites that you don’t trust and you should be fine. The third method is a no brainer, since no one really opens those e-mails. If you are one of those few who do – stop doing it, no good will come out of this. The fourth most common way for Delta Search’s distribution is also the most effective one. The unwanted software is bundled as an added install to a free program that you may download from the internet. Once you install that program, you get the added content, in this case – Delta Search.

How to avoid it

We already mentioned how to deal with the first three methods of distribution, leaving us with the fourth and most successful one. It is easy to deal with this one as well – you just need to pay attention to what programs are going to be installed along the main one. If there is not a list of the added content in the installation menu seek out the advanced/custom settings. In there you should be able to see everything added. Uncheck what you think may be Delta Search (Sidenote: Delta Search may go under a different name; should still be easy to single out though). After this, you can safely proceed with installing the freeware program.
