Within the lines below, you will be introduced to a software app called which most security experts regard as unwanted. This is not a virus program and it is rather unlikely to harm the computer it gets installed on so if you have on your machine and are scared that your computer might have gotten attacked by a nasty Trojan Horse infection or a Ransomware cryptovirus (or something similar), you can take a breath of relief since this is not what we have here. Still, has been known to attach itself to even some of the most secure browsers like Chrome and Firefox and to spam them with obstructive page redirects and banners (as well as with other commercial materials) and also to introduce unwanted modifications to the browser’s starting page, toolbar, search engine tool, buttons, extensions and so on. The reason these changes are usually undesired by the users lies in the fact that they are mainly introduced to the browser for the purpose of pushing the advertising campaign conducted by the hijacker. In fact, advertising stuff on your screen and making money out of the ads is the typical purpose of most browser hijackers, including This means that your computer is most likely not going to be directly threatened by the presence of the pesky software since the purpose of the latter is to advertise different products on your screen which has nothing to do with damaging anything on your system. However, you should know that very little (if anything) of what a typical browser hijacker does on your computer is actually going to be beneficial to you in any way. With this in mind, we have decided to prepare for our readers a detailed and comprehensible guide on how to remove and post it here so that any of you who may need the instructions could access and use them.

We recommend removing the hijacker from your computer

Now, for some of you getting random ads and occasional page redirects in your browsers as well as having some of the browser’s elements changed, modified and replaced may not seem like a big deal. However, even then, removing the unwanted app is the preferable course of action and here’s why:

Even if the hijacker doesn’t actively seek to harm your computer or expose it to danger, this may still happen if some of the adverts and the redirects coming from the unwanted software piece are actually linked to hazardous web locations. Now, we aren’t saying that an app like is programmed to show you such ads but you got to be aware of the fact that there’s usually not much control over the quality of the adverts that get shown to users. For all know, the next advert might actually be linked to some shady phishing page infested with Ransomware, Trojans, Rootkits or other nasty threats. This is why it is advisable to clean your PC and to also keep it clean in the future by avoiding any type of web content that may not be safe, reliable and trustworthy.

Type Browser Hijacker
Danger Level Medium (nowhere near threats like Ransomware, but still a security risk)
Symptoms  Hijackers do not typically seek to hide their presence – the ads, the changes to your browser and the obstructive page redirects are sure to give away the presence of on your machine.
Distribution Method Mostly through installers of free software that have the hijacker bundled with them.
Detection Tool

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

The first thing you need to do is to Quit Safari (if it is opened). If you have trouble closing it normally, you may need to Force Quit Safari:

You can choose the Apple menu and click on Force Quit.

Alternatively you can simultaneously press (the Command key situated next to the space bar), Option (the key right next to it) and Escape (the key located at the upper left corner of your keyboard).

If you have done it right a dialog box titled Force Quit Applications will open up.

In this new dialog window select Safari, then press the Force Quit button, then confirm with Force Quit again.

Close the dialog box/window.

To remove parasite on your own, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. If you were to do this, you need to be extremely careful, because you may damage your system.

If you want to avoid the risk, we recommend downloading SpyHunter
a professional malware removal tool.

The next step is to safely launch Safari again. Press and hold the Shift key while relaunching Safari. This will prevent Safari’s previously opened pages from loading again. Once Safari is opened up, you can release the Shift key.

On the off chance that you are still having trouble with scripts interrupting the closing of unwanted pages in Safari, you may need to take some additional measures.

First, Force Quit Safari again.

Now if you are using a Wi-Fi connection turn it off by selecting Wi-Fi off in you Mac’s Menu. If you are using a cable internet (Ethernet connection), disconnect the Ethernet cable.

Re-Launch Safari but don’t forget to press and hold the Shift button while doing it, so no previous pages can be opened up. Now, Click on Preferences in the Safari menu,

Preferences in Safari

and then again on the Extensions tab,

extensions in safari

Select and Uninstall any extensions that you don’t recognize by clicking on the Uninstall button. If you are not sure and don’t want to take any risks you can safely uninstall all extensions, none are required for normal system operation.

The threat has likely infected all of your browsers. The instructions below need to be applied for all browsers you are using.

Again select Preferences in the Safari Menu, but this time click on the Privacy tab,
Privacy in Safari

Now click on Remove All Website Data, confirm with Remove Now. Keep in mind that after you do this all stored website data will be deleted. You will need to sign-in again for all websites that require any form of authentication.

Still in the Preferences menu, hit the General tab

General Tab in Safari

Check if your Homepage is the one you have selected, if not change it to whatever you prefer.
