This page aims to help you remove Kraken Cryptor Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Kraken Cryptor file can be recovered.

Every day, the criminal hackers develop nastier and more advanced computer threats. One of the latest infections that our “How to remove” team has come across is called Kraken Cryptor and the current article is dedicated to it. This infection is a Ransomware cryptovirus which secretly encrypts the personal user files on the contaminated computer and asks its victims to pay a ransom for their liberation. In case that you want to learn more about the methods of infection and the best protection tips against such malware, in the next lines, we have published enough information about that. If Kraken Cryptor has been detected on your computer and has placed its insidious encryption on your files, however, you may need to pay close attention to the instructions in the Removal guide below or consider the use of specialized software and some alternative methods to fight the infection. We have listed some of the possible courses of action which might help you bypass the ransom payment and recover some of the encrypted files but, sadly, we cannot really promise you that everything will be back to normal as it was before. The viruses of the Ransomware type are extremely difficult to counteract and remove and each case of a Ransomware cryptovirus infection could develop differently. Still, we encourage you to read the information that follows and let us know if you find it helpful.

Kraken Cryptor Ransomware is created to extort money from its victims!

There are many computer threats all around the Internet but the Ransomware infections are one of a kind. These viruses operate without causing destruction or corruption to the compromised system. In order to cause harm, they use a complex file encryption method instead. In the basic principle of the attack lies a simple blackmailing scheme – the malware locks the users’ personal files with an encryption algorithm and then places a ransom-demanding message on the screen. The cyber criminals usually ask for a certain amount of money from the victims in exchange for the liberation of the sealed data. Sadly, only the hackers have the special decryption key which could make the encrypted files accessible again and no other software could open them without the use of that key.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Step3

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

msconfig_opt

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Step4

WARNING!
To remove parasite, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. Making a mistake and deleting the wrong thing may damage your system.
Avoid this by using SpyHunter - a professional Parasite removal tool.

Keep in mind, SpyHunter’s malware & virus scanner is free. To remove the infection, you'll need to purchase its full version. More information about SpyHunter and steps to uninstall.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press EnterOnce inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name.

Search for the ransomware  in your registries and delete the entries. Be extremely careful –  you can damage your system if you delete entries not related to the ransomware.

Type each of the following in the Windows Search Field:

  1. %AppData%
  2. %LocalAppData%

  4. %WinDir%
  5. %Temp%

Step5

How to Decrypt Kraken Cryptor files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

Naturally, the main goal of the hackers here is to get your money as quickly as possible. Therefore, they try to be as manipulative and as threatening as they could in order to receive the payment. Short deadlines, fake messages from the authorities and other creative scenarios often come into play to frighten the users and make them more likely to succumb to the cyber criminal’s demands. In most of the cases, the money is requested in Bitcoins or another untraceable form of cryptocurrency so that the crooks could remain hidden from the authorities. Those who comply with the terms and the requirements stated in the ransom-demanding note are usually promised to receive a decryption key for their files.

In case that Kraken Cryptor has infected your computer, the options that you could consider are basically two – to pay ransom to the criminals and hope to receive the decryption key they promise to send you or remove the Ransomware virus from the system and rely on file backups to recover some of your data. In case you don’t want to sponsor the hackers and don’t trust their promises, we could help you remove Kraken Cryptor on your own. In fact, in the Removal Guide on this page, there are manual steps on how to locate and delete the virus as well as some free file-recovery instructions, which might be worth the try.

We suggest that you first try them or consider using some professional removal tool instead of rushing with the ransom payment because making the hackers richer would only encourage them to blackmail you more (and also, there’s no actual guarantee that you’d get your files back even after you pay).

How can Kraken Cryptor infect you and what to do to protect your PC from it?

Most contaminations with Ransomware happen without any visible symptoms or potential indicators. This is because these malicious pieces of software oftentimes use the help of a Trojan horse backdoor infection in order to sneak inside the system undetected or infect it via exploit kits, system vulnerabilities, and well-camouflaged malicious transmitters. That’s why, it is extremely important to invest in a reliable security software and eliminate any system issues or weaknesses if you want to keep your PC away from such security threats. It is also very important to create backups of your most valuable files and store them on external drives, on clouds or inside other devices because, in many of the cases, this is the only surefire way of recovering the encrypted data in case of a Ransomware attack.
