What kind of a threat is .Monro Ransomware?

Ransomware is a sort of malicious software which is specialized in file encryption and user harassment through ransom-demanding blackmailing schemes. The viruses from this category represent a serious threat to every computer system and could cause many problems for their victims. For instance, they can make vital information inaccessible by encrypting it with a complex algorithm and threaten their victims that if the money isn’t paid, the files would get deleted. They can also block the access to the device’s screen and deprive you of your ability to use it until you pay a big amount of money to the hackers who are in control of the infection. Depending on their target, the Ransomware infections could be divided into two main categories:

  • Ransomware that uses file encryption: These are the most common Ransomware representatives and .Monro is yet another addition to their ever-growing category. The file-encrypting viruses are definitely the most problematic and dealing with them might not always be successful. They are specialized in encrypting practically every piece of valuable data that you keep on your computer – work files, archives, images, videos, audios and sometimes even system files. Usually, the infection targets certain file formats and as soon as it detects them on the PC, it locks them with a very complex and hard-to-break encryption. This way, it keeps them hostage until you pay the ransom for their decryption. A big ransom-demanding alert is usually displayed on the victim’s screen when the encryption process is over. There, the hackers, who are in control of the Ransomware, place their payment instructions and deadlines, after which, recovery of the affected files might not be possible.
  • Screen-locking Ransomware: This category represents ransomware-based viruses, which target the screen of your device. They can affect your smartphone, your tablet, your laptop, your desktop computer or other smart devices and prevent you from accessing your icons and menus by placing a full-screen ransom-demanding pop-up. Fortunately, in this case, no files are affected and the pop-up is usually easy to remove if you know what you arе doing.

Where could .Monro be found?

.Monro Ransomware is a tricky malware and its creators use various distribution methods in order to infect as many people as possible. Torrents, different sketchy pages, illegal websites, malicious spam and pop-ups are some of the many possible sources. However, the most common and the most effective methods of infection include Malvertising via malicious and misleading or fake web ads and distribution of infected email attachments and Trojan horse infections. That’s why, you should always stay alert when some attractive or too-good-to-be-true offer appears on your screen or an intriguing email lands in your inbox. On the Internet, there are various contagious and illegal web pages, which may resemble legitimate and well-known platforms and websites but may actually be used for malware distribution. Such pages could be used by the hackers as virus sources and this is the reason why we warn our readers to be extra careful with the web locations that they visit. It is best to stick to reputed websites and have a reliable antivirus protection in order to catch the potential threats on time.

How can .Monro Ransomware be removed from the system?

Ransomware may be awfully difficult to remove and to recover from. That’s why, you should take your time and carefully study all the alternatives and options that you have in order to pick up the best solution in your particular case. Paying the ransom may seem like the most obvious alternative but for many victims it might not be the best one. The reason is, there is always a risk of sending the money without receiving any decryption solution in return. On the flip side, in some cases, it might even be possible to get rid of the Ransomware without paying the requested ransom. That’s why, we suggest you first try to remove .Monro by using some alternative methods such as the ones in the Removal Guide below. You may also consider buying some specialized software to clean your computer or contact a security specialist of your choice instead of giving your money to some anonymous hackers. Sadly, we cannot offer you a universal and a 100% effective solution but giving a try to all the alternatives might eventually help you minimize the harmful effects of the Ransomware.
