How irritating is this virus?

This page aims to show you how to remove the Shmokiads Redirect Virus. Our removal instructions work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows.

ATTENTION! This is something you should know!

Shmokiads.com is an ad network that is by no means malicious. However there seems to be an influx of redirects towards it, and this is caused by something called a browser hijacker, which is definitely a security threat. We hereby inform you that in this article we are not alleging that shmokiads.com and the people behind it are not doing anything wrong – the browser hijacker is simply driving unsuspecting users to the website, and it needs to be removed.

The text you are going to read contains valuable information about the potential effects of getting infected by Shmokiads Redirect Virus. In fact, this is a software version, which has currently been annoying lots of users all around the world by broadcasting many undesired pop-up ads (also in the form of banners and other colorful shapes); causing certain redirecting to various unknown web sites; and/or setting totally unfamiliar homepages and search engines. The concrete details we find quite irritating about the so-called browser hijackers is that they may enter and change all of the browser apps on your computer: Firefox and/or Explorer, and/or Chrome. The news we consider good about Shmokiads Redirect Virus is that, here, into this article, we have also incorporated a fully functional Removal Guide. The instructions to stick to are designed with the very purpose to assist you in getting rid of this program. For more important info, simply continue with the text below.

What kind of software category is “browser hijackers”?

This popular and very common software category comprises all products, which are advertising-oriented: the so called browser hijackers. Nonetheless, we have to point out that all such programs are legal, mainly built on the basis of perfectly legitimate contracts.  These contracts allow their creators to earn huge profits out of the advertising activities these products perform – redirecting and ad production.

Is there even a slight connection between the Shmokiads Redirect Virus and any malicious program we are aware of?

In spite of the possible annoyance, which any hijacker may result in, these programs have no actual dangerous effect. Actually, they represent simple online promoting instruments, which have nothing to do with malware as a whole. The so-called Trojans and Ransomware-based viruses, the most common types of malware, are usually programmed to harm your system in many ways. For example, all Trojans can result in a lot of harmful consequences: personal details theft, and/or even bank account draining; or a kind of espionage, as well as file encryption and harassment.

The hijacker programs we know of such as Shmokiads Redirect Virus are only capable of displaying an overwhelming number of disturbing ads. Their forms and colors might range from pop-ups and banners to differently shaped and colored boxes. The only quite suspicious effect Shmokiads Redirect Virus could show is the possible connection between its ads and the content of your browser history it may establish. In fact, this process of linking the promotion campaigns to the shown pop-ups is legal and this research into your supposed preferences allows developers to only offer you the services and products you may be interested in. Still, avoid panicking! This is not something to worry about, just a well-spread marketing strategy – you buy what you see most often or what you have been looking for recently. The suggested products/services may even be exactly what you have sought, so the entire campaign may turn out to be a positive thing.

What are the possible ways, in which it is most probable to get contaminated by a program from the same category as the Shmokiads Redirect Virus?

The secret is to properly download and install any software or bundle. Generally speaking, software bundles are considered the most frequent sources of promoting products such as Adware and browser hijackers. If you have no clue about the nature of a regular bundle: it represents a mix of different FREE apps, programs and games. Despite that, you might still be able to use the free programs but avoid the irritating ones at the same time, provided that you learn to install any piece of software in the wisest possible way. In case you have already downloaded the wanted bundle, and have reached the point of installing it, bear in mind that the only installer options, which may allow you to manually change and control the whole installation process, are either the CUSTOMIZED, or the ADVANCED one. They should be used in all cases, so as to let you opt out of the potential hijacker programs inside the desired bundle. Remember that whatever software you download and install, you’d better always strive to choose one of those installation options.
