This page aims to help you remove .Revolution Virus Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any .Revolution Virus file can be recovered.

Ransomware viruses are becoming more and more popular and the name is becoming better known among regular online users. This is mainly due to some massive attacks that recently hit the news and talked about far and wide on the media, but also because they’re just genuinely becoming an enormous global threat. Each year the number of these malicious programs increases dramatically, adding millions of new variants to their ranks and terrorizing innocent people. One of the latest ransomware viruses to be reported to us is .Revolution, and it, too, has been infecting users and encrypting their files. The whole scheme involves robbing you of access to your own data, so that the hackers can then extort money from you in exchange for returning it. It’s blackmail in its most outrageous form and also the reason for enormous financial losses on a bigger scale. In this article we will talk more about .Revolution specifically and what you need to know about it. And at the end of it we will provide you with a set of instructions on how to remove this awful threat from your system. In addition, we will also try to help you restore the files it has encrypted on your PC.

How does ransomware do what it does and still get away with it?

The most painful thing about dealing with ransomware viruses like .Revolution is knowing how unreachable they tend to be for the authorities. Due to their immense profitability for the hackers and incredible elusiveness, they’ve become unstoppable and can therefore multiply and flourish at our expense. Malicious programs like .Revolution use elaborate techniques to remain hidden on your computer once they’ve infiltrated it, and use equally complex encryption algorithms to ensure you won’t be able to regain access to your files without paying the ransom. That is another thing that makes dealing with this particular malware category so difficult: it is by far not always possible to recover from their consequences, even if you do resort to paying the money.

You see, when having to do with delicate things like encryption and code, even the hackers aren’t all-powerful. So, it’s not uncommon for the decryption keys that they offer not to work. And since these are, after all, common criminals that have invaded and tampered with your private (or corporate) property, it’s also fairly common for them to simply “forget” to send you the decryption key you paid for. And it’s a no-refund policy in this section, folks. So, for this reason we wouldn’t recommend immediately resorting to the money transfer if you’ve already been infected with .Revolution. In fact, we would advise against it altogether, as this is really the only thing that can stop cyber criminals from continuing to develop and distribute threats of this caliber.

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Maximum file size: 128MB.

This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at: https://howtoremove.guide/online-virus-scanner/

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

How to Decrypt .Revolution Virus files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

But what options does that leave you with? Now that you’ve essentially been robbed of some of your most important images, documents, files, programs, projects, etc., what can you do to remedy the situation? Well, as pointed out in the beginning of this article, we have a removal guide waiting for your below which you can use free of charge to locate and remove .Revolution from your system. It’s important that you do this regardless of what you choose to undertake later on. That same guide also contains instructions on how you can attempt to recover the encrypted files from system backups. As we also mentioned earlier, encryption is really tricky business and the newer the virus – the more sophisticated its techniques are. So, it may not always be possible to successfully recover files this way, but it’s definitely worth a try.

Alternatively, you can also try using a special decryptor tool, like the ones we’ve listed on our website. Sometimes these are able to crack the code of the encryption and free your data. But again, there’s no room for guarantees here. A specialist dealing specifically only with ransomware encryptions could potentially also be able to help. What we can recommend after you’ve dealt with .Revolution is that you start taking all the necessary precautions, so you don’t ever get infected again. You can do that by being more careful when browsing the web, opening emails and interacting with any content online. Use your common sense and avoid content that seems suspicious or otherwise untrustworthy. In addition, you can also start keeping backups of your most valuable files on external drives, so you won’t need to worry about an infection, even if one does occur.
