One of the most awful threats you can encounter on the web is called Reyptson Ransomware – a very harassing and harmful virus indeed! This malicious piece of software is a part of the Ransonware malware type that can easily encrypt your frequently accessed files and even blackmail you for money after that. But what is Ransomware actually and why is it such a dangerous kind of malware?

Ransomware encompasses a wide range of harmful viruses that are hard to hack or delete. Sometimes even IT experts experience great difficulties in dealing with a computer infection by such a virus. Overall, such malware is very challenging to counteract in any way. This follows from the fact that the process of encrypting data is not harmful to begin with. The hackers have just found a way to exploit it against the infected user. Normally, there are several subgroups of Ransomware-likes viruses with different infection targets. However, the one feature they have in common is the ransom that is demanded in exchange for removing the dangerous encryption they have caused to your system. Here is what you need to be aware of about the known Ransomware subcategories in general.

Ransomware is divided into several smaller malware subgroups:

  1. Reyptson Ransomware is an example of the file-encryption subcategory of Ransomware. Its representative programs block your most frequently used files through a double-key encoding procedure. You receive threats in the form of screen notifications telling you that the files marked as locked-up have become completely inaccessible to you. After all this you are made to believe that the only possible solution of getting hold of your encoded data again is by paying the hackers, who are abusing you, all the money they have demanded.
  2. A different subgroup is the screen-locking Ransomware which splits into two smaller malware subversions. The first subgroup members mainly lock your computer screen by displaying a notification asking for an enormous ransom and thus leaving you completely unable to use anything on your computer.
The second group comprises the mobile-oriented versions of this malicious software. As the name suggests, they mainly affect your mobile devices such as phones and tablets. These Ransomware versions function in the same way as all other viruses discussed above, i.e. by showing you a notification for blocking your device and therefore making you pay a relatively big ransom. Unless you provide the necessary ransom, you will not be able to access your device and use its features properly anymore.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Possible Ransomware sources:

While browsing the Internet, you may come across such malicious products. Unfortunately, there is pretty much nothing that can help you get rid of them once these viruses have infiltrated your device. The majority of the reports issued on the matter revolve around the fact that people click on a false malicious pop-up advert during the browsing process, or just take a peek at a spam letter and even open the attachments inside it. Notice that, hidden in an email might be the Reyptson Ransomware virus, often supported by a Trojan horse virus. In addition to this possible source, others we can mention are various infectious websites, shareware, and torrents. Beware that anything on the web might be a Ransomware source.

Generally, an infection process occurs in the following way:

No matter how you have caught Reyptson Ransomware, this is the typical infection process. First, the Ransomware enters your PC and gets full access to all your data. Then the malware program fully scans your documents and files by picking the ones you have used or might be using the most. Now all this data becomes a victim of getting encrypted with a key that is very difficult to crack. In the final step you receive a notification in the form of a pop-up on your screen and get updated about your problem.

In case of an infection, you had better proceed in the following way:

Unfortunately, we cannot always fight Ransomware successfully. You may manage to delete the virus, but the data could still remain encoded. What we recommend is that you NOT pay the ransom but try to fix the issue with Reyptson Ransomware by yourself. To help you deal with this easier, we have created the Removal Guide published at the end of this article. We do not promise that it will work in all situations, but it will definitely help you counteract cyber threats and potentially restore your data.
