The following text is about one of the most horrible types of contaminations, which are raging around the Internet at the present moment – the Ransomware-inflicted kind. In fact, the exact infection we are describing below is caused by one particular version of ransom-demanding malware, RoshaLock Virus. You are going to read all about the horrors this type of viruses may cause, which could include file encryption and ransom-requiring alerts, in the following paragraph.
Are the Ransomware-caused infections absolutely the worst kind of contamination you could ever come across?
Really, there is no threat as dangerous as the various versions of Ransomware, which you could catch in one way or another, mainly while surfing the Internet. In fact, there may be different types of Ransomware viruses, all of which we will discuss below.
Ransomware could be divided in the subgroups below:
- The data-encrypting subtype:
It consists of the viruses, which infect your computer, access its hard drives, and determine which of them are the most usually used ones. After successfully conducting these activities, such a virus encrypts all the predetermined data via a very complicated and difficult-to-crack key. Immediately after all the files have been blocked, you will get a message about that. A big notification will be displayed on your monitor, and it may consist of a demand to pay a certain amount in ransom, stated deadlines, as well as of some extra warnings and warnings. To be completely precise, RoshaLock Virus is exactly a member of this subcategory.
- The screen-encrypting subtype:
The programs from this subfamily do not encrypt any files. Actually, they may just prevent you from accessing your device’s display by putting a huge ransom alert message up. In this ransom-requiring notification you might find some more threats about the future of your device, which in fact there only for the purpose of scaring you, as just the screen gets affected. Of course, a payment deadline and some additional payment details might be included as well. When it comes to this subcategory, the devices it may infect range from laptops/computers to smartphones/tablets.
- The Ransomware viruses, used for making hackers pay for their illegal activities:
Surprising as it may sound, such programs might also be exploited for making cyber criminals pay for whatever illegal they have done. Such a usage is actually rather rare – only authorized agencies are able to use such malware in this way.
What makes all these Ransomware subcategories one and the same malware category?
All of the programs, described above, including RoshaLock Virus, invade your PC automatically, and may prevent you from accessing something on your machine: either your monitor/display, or some of your files. Indeed, both possibilities sound rather harassing. Moreover, such viruses will always demand a ransom for undoing whatever harmful they have done to you.
Is there a way to counteract such malware?
To be precise, it might be impossible to fully undo whatever RoshaLock Virus has done to you and your devices. In the most disturbing case possible, a complete reinstall of your system could be necessary. Actually, even experts in this field might have serious difficulty in counteracting such grave cyber threats. To be completely honest, the only essential tip in case of such a malware-caused infection is NOT to pay the ransom as soon as you are notified about the hackers’ demands. Simply remember that the future of your data will definitely be unsure even if you pay the requested money. As a result, you should first look for other possible solutions to this problem. Such as the following ones:
- Consult someone, good at computing and with experience in the field, to help you counteract this threat;
- Search for an app or a program, which might be able to deal with such an issue;
- Turn to a specially designed Removal Guide (like the one below) for dealing with this threatening infection.
And ultimately, do not expect to magically restore your data as this could never happen. Backing up is the only working prevention method that could save you from the file-encrypting category of Ransomware
Avoiding Ransomware in general
The only way to stay away from Ransomware is to avoid the potential sources of such viruses, which could include:
- Letters inside your email:
All the letters there might include Ransomware, at times even bundled with Trojans. Just open only the emails you have expected or from the senders who you can recognize.
- Malicious online ads from the web:
Some pop-ups and banners may redirect you to malware-involving websites. Consequently, it is a good idea to simply avoid them all – do not click on any pop-up you come across on the Internet.
- Illegal-software and movie-sharing web pages:
All the video, software and torrent-spreading web pages could potentially be contagious. Stay as away from them as possible.
