This page aims to help you remove Satyr Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Satyr file can be recovered.

The term “Ransomware” is frequently present within the online security news nowadays. This term stands for a special category of computer viruses, which are capable of encrypting your files and rendering them inaccessible to you. This category of malware is growing and evolving very quickly and new and more advanced viruses of this type keep infecting and attacking the active web users. Satyr is one of the latest Ransomware threats, which has been reported to our “How to remove” team. This virus is used for an online blackmailing scheme, which asks you to pay a ransom if you want to regain the access to your encrypted files. In the text below, we are going to describe in details the features of this infection and we are going to offer you a few methods, which may help you remove the Ransomware from your computer. Read the following lines to learn more about this insidious malware threat and make use of the instructions in the free Removal Guide below if Satyr Ransomware has infected your computer.

The specifics of Ransomware:

Ransomware significantly differs from any other type of known malware. The way it operates is unique because, unlike most of the virus infections, it does not cause your computer harm by corrupting or damaging the system or the files. Instead, it encrypts the data that is on the infected machine without actually harming it. File-encryption is usually a popular method for data protection, which is widely used by many institutions, companies, and authorities. In the case of Ransomware, however, the file-encryption is used in a blackmailing scheme. The moment the malware enters the system, it locks a certain list of file types without your knowledge and permission. Then, it generates a unique decryption key and a ransom message, which asks you to pay a ransom if you want to undo the Ransomware’s encryption process. The decryption key is kept in secret on the server of the hackers, who control the infection. They usually use various manipulative techniques to make you pay a considerable amount of money in exchange for that key. Unfortunately, there may not be other options to recover the affected data and this is what the crooks rely on in order to extract money from their victims. Sadly, we have to say that this is one of the most terrible forms of malware because dealing with the Ransomware and the consequences of its attack may not always be possible and you may lose some important or valuable information in the process.

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

How can you get infected with Satyr and what are the most common transmitters?

You can get infected with Ransomware very easily. Unfortunately, this type of malware relies on many different transmitters in order to infect as many people as possible and we cannot list them all here. However, we will try to mention some of the most common sources of threats like Satyr so you can try to avoid them as much as possible.

Spam emails are one of the first things to keep away from. Such emails and their attachments may often contain infected or compromised files, which could be transmitters of Ransomware, Trojans and other nasty infections. That’s why it is best if you simply ignore and/or delete these messages instead of blindly clicking on them and risking your system’s safety. Also, make sure you open emails only from known senders and avoid messages which claim that you have won a prize or some free bonuses. Some sites may also be compromised and may infect you with hidden malicious scripts. To avoid that, stick only to reputed web locations and limit your interaction with different streaming platforms, torrent sites, freeware or shareware pages and other sketchy web content.

Trojan horses are also very common Ransomware transmitters. These threats can infect you in a very stealthy way and can deliver Satyr into your system by exploiting different system vulnerabilities. To minimize the risk, you should regularly update your OS and protect your PC with reliable antivirus software. Also, don’t click on ads, pop-ups, sketchy messages and sudden software update requests, as these can easily be compromised and used as carriers of different malware infections.

Should you pay the ransom?

Frankly speaking, regardless of what you decide to do, the recovery of your files may still not be guaranteed. You have to figure out what the best course of action is in your specific case. But if you ask for an advice, we would suggest that you first give a try to all the available alternatives, before considering the ransom payment as an option. The Removal Guide below can be one of the possible solutions if you are lucky. Contacting an experienced professional may be another wise option. Using your own file-backups may also save at least some of your data, but for that, you first have to ensure that Satyr has been completely removed from your system. The professional Satyr removal tool on this page can help you with this task, and we recommend you give it a try instead of sponsoring the criminals and their blackmailing practices.
