ShurL0ckr Ransomware is the topic of our article today. This is a Ransomware program that blackmails its victim user into paying a ransom. Nonetheless, the users themselves are not the actual hostages; their files are, to be precise. This virus kind is truly horrifying and may scare you awfully. What is even more terrifying is the fact that as soon as your files get encrypted and the ransom alert has been broadcast, little if nothing can be done to reverse the encryption process inflicted by ShurL0ckr Ransomware completely. Hopefully, the article below will give you some valuable info about the fight against the programs from the Ransomware category.

Just like we have stated above, the programs that are Ransomware representatives are complete experts at infiltrating your device in secret and later on rendering your important data completely inaccessible. After that, what happens is that that you receive a terrible screen-covering alert which says you need to pay a certain ransom in order to access your data, or it will remain unavailable for good. Such statements could be really scary, couldn’t they?

The process of infection triggered by ShurL0ckr. Sources:

  • Malicious online ads (“malvertising”) – this kind of virus may be automatically caught by loading a fake pop-up ad. These ads are normally generated by suspicious web platforms.
  • Fake OS updates – oftentimes a virus may come to you in the form of an update request that resembles the ones your OS typically produces. Actually, only few users may indeed spot the differences between a fake and original update request. Perhaps that is why this distribution method is so popular.
  • Untrustworthy letters coming to your email – such emails containing viruses may be found both inside your spam and your Inbox folders. Please remain particularly cautious since they usually come from shady addresses and totally unfamiliar senders. As soon as you load such a letter, or follow a link in it, you are likely to catch the virus immediately.
  • The attachments of such e-mails – even your emails’ attachments may be contaminated. Hence, we really recommend that you make sure you avoid downloading or loading any suspicious email attachments, as this way you might get infected with a sort of harmful malware. Normally in such a case, the Ransomware does not come alone – it can often be packed together with a Trojan horse virus. The Trojan version is the instrument used for infiltrating your PC via one of its vulnerabilities.

Can such a contamination be removed and the affected data – saved? You really have to understand that it’s indeed complicated to fight such malware infections. No actions may ever guarantee a positive outcome for you and your data. Nonetheless, there are a few options you might want to try before really completing the ransom payment. First of all, you can always ask an expert to save your data and perhaps help remove the virus. Perhaps their skills and experience are going to be enough to accomplish that. Second of all, you might try implementing the instructions inside the Removal Guide we have included here. However, remember that no promises are made and we cannot guarantee that your data will be saved.

The process of file encryption that ShurL0ckr normally leads to:

No matter how your device has caught a virus such as ShurL0ckr, the steps such a virus performs after that are described below:

  • To begin with, all your PC drives are completely checked for the files this malware considers worth encoding (the data you most regularly use).
  • After that, a thorough list with all such data is created. Then the encryption with a complex double key starts and continues until the very last file from this list gets encrypted.
  • The last stage is the generation of a scary ransom-demanding notification. Typically, you get one that contains payment info and some more threats about the condition and future of your encoded data.

Can such infection and encryption processes be spotted on time?

Some users have reported that they have noticed an unfamiliar process inside their Task Managers, which was in fact a Ransomware virus. This almost never happens, though. Nevertheless, if you DO notice such a strange activity, switch off your device as soon as possible. What’s more, ensure that you disconnect your PC from all professional, home and other networks it is a part of to prevent the spreading of the contamination.
