If you are reading this, you’ve probably noticed changes in your Chrome, Firefox, or Explorer browser, but you can’t remember how they have occurred, or when you have approved them. Your browser’s homepage may have been replaced with an unfamiliar one, and you may have noticed a new search engine, which is now automatically redirecting you to some unknown web pages like Digital captcha, Poshukach.com , full of aggressive advertisements, banners, and colorful pop-ups. Regardless of the websites you are trying to visit, blinking boxes, links, and aggressive advertising messages may immediately cover them.

Those ads may oftentimes be impossible to close or remove as they may typically appear on top of the actual pages you want to see. Many users may first think that this must be caused by some dangerous virus. However, we are here to tell you that what you are experiencing is typical browser hijacker activity. In particular, a result of the activity of a new representative called Smart Captcha Solve. Even though Smart Captcha Solve is not a virus, this hijacker’s activity may actually prevent you from browsing the web the way you used to. Therefore, you are probably interested in finding out how to remove all this irritating activity, along with the homepage, or the search engine changes that might have been imposed on your browser. That’s why, in the next lines, we’ve prepared a removal guide to help you detect, and uninstall the program that is causing disturbance. Just carefully read the information, and proceed to the steps below.

SmartCaptchaSolve

SmartCaptchaSolve is by no means a virus, but one of the many browser hijackers which online advertisers use to promote different products, services, and websites. Despite the aggressive manner in which SmartCaptchaSolve bombards your screen, and takes over your browser, this software doesn’t represent a malicious virus.

Its sole purpose is to generate money by a rather annoying, and disturbing, but definitely not damaging, manner for its developers. Unlike, for example, the malicious Ransomware, which extorts money from the attacked users by blackmailing them, a program like Smart Captcha Solve typically makes money from the clicks on web ads, and sponsored websites. The individuals who profit from this method of advertisement are not some unscrupulous cyber criminals, but primarily online marketers, and software developers. ⠀

SmartCaptchaSolve.top

Whenever a user clicks on the SmartCaptchaSolve.top advertisements, the click becomes translates into a small amount of revenue. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, if SmartCaptchaSolve.top becomes far too aggressive, an issue may arise.

For example, a program like Smart Captcha Solve may install a sponsored search engine inside your browser, or change your homepage with a third-party one, just to ensure that every time you open your browser, you immediately visit the sponsored site that generates a payment. In addition, the program may monitor your latest web activity, and try to spam you with pop-ups, offers, and banners that correspond to your searches. This is performed with the goal of displaying as many ads as possible, increasing the overall profit earned from the hijacker.

However, getting exposed to so many ads can be related to certain security risks. What we have in mind here is the possibility of bumping into non-real advertisements, or internet pages, that can infect you with malware of all kinds – from viruses to Trojans, and even Ransomware. And although this is not often the case, you never know when malicious hackers can use this trick, and sneak a fake ad in the flow of colorful blinking boxes that appear on your screen. Therefore, we suggest you uninstall Smart Captcha Solve as a preventive measure.

To remove Smart Captcha Solve from a Windows system, the steps that must be completed are the following:

  1. First, the user needs to make sure that any program that may have installed the hijacker on the computer gets removed.
  2. Next, if there are remaining rogue processes still active in the system, those need to be stopped.
  3. Thirdly, system settings such as the Startup items, the network DNS settings, the Hosts file, and the Registry must be restored to their regular state.
  4. Finally, the hijacker extension(s) must be removed from all browsers and the browsing data must be cleared.

To perform the steps correctly, please, read carefully the next instructions.

Detailed Smart Captcha Solve Removal Guide It’s best if your PC stays disconnected from the web while you are performing the next steps – this will prevent Smart Captcha Solve from reaching out to its servers and receiving new instructions that may make its removal more difficult.

Step 1

Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program, where you need to find the program with which Smart Captcha Solve was bundled when it got inside your system, and delete that program. It’s possible that the hijacker has gotten into your system through other means, so if you don’t find a suspicious program in that list, simply move to the next step. If, however, you come across a program or app that may have let Smart Captcha Solve enter your system, uninstall it, making sure that its uninstallation manager doesn’t allow any data related to that program to be left on your PC.

Step 2

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

Start the Task Manager by pressing the keys shown below and click on the Processes section:

  • [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc]

Look for resource-intensive processes with unusual names that you think may be related to Smart Captcha Solve. If you suspect one or more of the processes, try the following two methods to find out if they are indeed harmful:

  • Right-click on the process you suspect, access the File Location of that process, and scan its files. You can use the scanner shown below – it’s free on our site, and you don’t have to install anything to use it.
Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.
Drag and Drop File Here To Scan

This scanner is based on VirusTotal's API. By submitting data to it, you agree to their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to the sharing of your sample submission with the security community. Please do not submit files with personal information if you do not want them to be shared.
If any of the files in the location folder are found to be malicious, this means that the process is also harmful.

    • The other method is to simply search online for information about the suspected process – if the latter is harmful, you should be able to quickly find reports from security sits and forums that confirm the process is a threat and needs to be stopped.

If you find out that the suspected process is indeed a rogue one, quit it and delete the folder where its files are located.

Step 3 We strongly recommend rebooting into Safe Mode to help prevent Smart Captcha Solve from re-launching its rogue processes.

Step 4 Next, use the search bar below the Start Menu to search for the following items, open them one by one, and complete the instructions for each that are shown below:
    • ncpa.cpl: Once you open this, right-click the network that you use on regular basis, go to the Properties window, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4, and enable the Obtain an IP address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically options. After that click Advanced, open DNS, delete any addresses listed in the DNS server addresses list, and click OK on all open windows.
    • msconfig: Click Startup from the top in the System Configuration window, search for items you are unfamiliar with and ones with unknown developers, uncheck those items, and select the OK button.
    • notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts: In the notepad file named Hosts that opens, check if there are IP addresses listed at its bottom (below Localhost) and if there are, copy-paste them in the comments section below. Soon, we will reply to your comment, telling you if the IPs must be removed from the file.

Step 5 Be careful while completing this step and deleting items from the Registry – only delete what you are sure is from the hijacker, and if you are uncertain about a certain item, ask about it in the comments. To start the Registry Editor, search for the regedit.exe app in the Start Menu, start it, and select Yes. Then go to Edit > Find, type Smart Captcha Solve, and click Find Next. If anything is found, delete it and search again.

Make sure that all search results are deleted and there are no more Smart Captcha Solve items left, and then visit the next folders in the left panel of the Registry Editor.

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Random Directory
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main

In those folders, look for sub-folders with weird names that look random (something like this: “498t9j498tg4398rj89f9854t2498rj4298tu2498rj“). If there are such sub-folders there, tell us about them in the comments, and will let you know if anything should be done about them.

Step 6 Go to the icon of the main browser, right-click it, go to Properties > Shortcut, and delete any text that may be written after “.exe” in the Target text field. Click OK to apply and save the changes. Start the browser, click its menu (it’s an icon in the top-left or top-right depending on what browser you are using), and click Extensions/Add-ons. For Chrome users, you must first click the More Tools sub-menu, and then you will see the Extensions option. Disable any extensions you don’t recognize or that you think are linked to Smart Captcha Solve, and then uninstall them.

Now, from the browser menu, click Settings (or Options in some browsers) and then go to the Privacy and Security settings section.

Find and select the Clear browsing data button or, if you are using Microsoft Edge, the Choose what to clear button.

Next, select all types of browsing data by putting ticks in each box. Leave only the box labelled Passwords unchecked, and then click on Clear Data.

Lastly, make sure that this last step is performed with every browser on the computer, including ones that don’t seem affected by the hijacker.

If you are still having problems with Smart Captcha Solve If you are still having problems with Smart Captcha Solve and no matter what you do, it won’t go away, it is possible that it is being helped by another unwanted (malware) program that is allowing it to evade your attempts to delete it. Trojan Horses and Rootkits, which are significantly more dangerous pieces of malware compared to Smart Captcha Solve, are often used for providing other unwanted/malware programs with persistence in the system. For this reason, our suggestion is to try using a removal tool that has been tested against both browser hijackers like Smart Captcha Solve as well as more dangerous threats such as Trojans, Rootkits, Spyware, etc. The professional anti-malware tool that you will find throughout the guide is perfect for such situations as it can take care of both the hijacker and any other malware that may be hiding on your computer which is why we recommend it to our readers.

    What is Smart Captcha Solve?

Smart Captcha Solve is an intrusive and potentially unwanted app that displays ads, page-redirects the browser’s online searches, and makes browser changes to generate money through online advertising. In addition to being annoying, Smart Captcha Solve can also be threatening, which is why you need to remove it. Normally, browser hijackers (a general term used to refer to apps similar to Smart Captcha Solve) manage to infect the users’ browsers in two main ways. The first one is through getting bundled together with a more presentable piece of software (usually a free app or program) which users are likely to willingly download and install. Though the presence of the hijacker in the bundle is usually disclosed, it’s likely to be disclosed in an unclear way, so that users won’t notice it. Once the program/app that carries the hijacker is installed, the rogue software component also gets in the system and, from there, in the browser. The next most popular way to spread hijackers is to use misleading permission requests shown by fake sites that trick the user into permitting the fake site into showing notifications in the browser and/or installing unwanted software in it.

How dangerous is Smart Captcha Solve?

Smart Captcha Solve is dangerous because you can’t control what it does in your browser, and its actions could often leave the system exposed to various forms of malware. Smart Captcha Solve is less dangerous than Trojans, Spyware, or Ransomware, but it may indirectly “invite” those into your computer. If you care about the security and safety of your system, virtual privacy, and personal data, deleting Smart Captcha Solve should be a top priority for you. Apps like it can be very unpredictable with their advertisements, and you can easily end up getting redirected to some harmful phishing page or a malware-distributing site if you let this hijacker stay in your browser. One other problem that must be considered is that Smart Captcha Solve is likely extracting data from your browser and using it to show you ads tailored to your (supposed) interests and preferences. The issue here is that such data would eventually likely be sold to unknown third parties – those could be other advertisers, but could also be scammers and hackers, who could then target you.

How to remove Smart Captcha Solve?

To remove Smart Captcha Solve, all rogue data, software, and settings must be removed from the system. After that, you should also go to every browser and remove any Smart Captcha Solve extensions that you may find there, and then you must also clear their browsing data. Here is a quick summary of each removal step: Step 1: In Control Panel > Uninstall a Program, look for anything that may be linked to Smart Captcha Solve and that may have secretly installed it on your computer. If you find such a program or app, uninstall it. Step 2: Make sure that there aren’t any Smart Captcha Solve processes still running in the system with the help of the Task Manager tool. Step 3: Visit the system settings listed below, revoke any changes made to them by the hijacker and delete from them any rogue items that shouldn’t be there: The Startup Items list The DNS settings for the network you normally use The Hosts file The System Registry Step 4: Go to each browser in the system, starting with the main one, remove any rogue extensions, and then delete all browsing data.
