SpeedUp PC 2018 “Virus”

Why is it considered to be a PUP?

First and foremost, we ought to mention that in and of itself, SpeedUp PC 2018 might actually be a useful PC optimization tool. The features that it is promoted to have such as Registry cleaning, startup optimization, removal of undesirable add-ons, etc. can actually improve the performance and even the security of one’s machine. However, it is the distribution methods of this program that make many security experts regard it as unwanted. Currently, one of the largest campaigns for spreading SpeedUp PC 2018 and getting it installed on as many PCs as possible is being conducted in Japan.

Typically, the software is promoted by aggressive ads generated by a certain webpages. The banners and pop-ups that promote the tool oftentimes claim that there’s some issue detected on the user’s machine that needs to be taken care of. In order to deal with the said issue, the users are advised to download the tool and install it on their computers. However, no website can detect an issue on your PC, especially if you haven’t given your permission for some sort of scanning meaning that such warnings coming from random pages that claim some problem was detected on the user’s machine are a total ruse. Also, downloading the program and installing it doesn’t directly get you the full optimization tool. Instead, once the downloaded installer is run and used to install Driver Updater, what the user gets is only a free version of the program along with a bundled application called Driver Updater. The only thing that the free version of the tool does is it carries out another scan of your system only to confirm the (fake) results that were presented to you by the website from where you downloaded the installer. The Driver Updater also supposedly scans your machine seeking outdated software. However, regardless of whether or not you have PC problems or outdated programs, both of the pseudo-scanners will more than likely detect something that needs to be fixed. After the scanning process has been completed and the non-existent errors have been detected, the user would be prompted to buy the license for the full version of SpeedUp PC 2018 “Virus”. Now, as we said, the program itself might have its merits but the thing is that you might not even need it on your PC. Regardless of the condition of your machine, however, if you have the SpeedUp PC 2018 and the Driver Updater scanner tools on your machine, you will be told that you absolutely need to get their full versions in order to optimize and secure your PC. Such distribution techniques are really intrusive, misleading and deceitful and many users can easily get tricked into paying for something that they don’t really need.

Avoiding such unwanted programs

Normally, the sites that are used to promote software such as SpeedUp PC 2018 tend to have low-reputation and to be within the gray area when it comes to legitimacy. Therefore, we advise you to avoid and sketchy web addresses that you might come across on the Internet. Spam messages might also get used for distribution of unwanted software so be on the lookout for those as well. One other very common method used to spread PUPs is the file bundling or in other words the practice of adding some less desirable application to the installer of some other program. In case you are about to install anything new on your PC, be sure to make use of the Advanced/Expanded installation option in order to have the ability to choose which of the added software to leave out of the installation so that you can avoid landing anything unwanted.
