Tinyurl2.ru

Tinyurl2.ru is what experts refer to as a browser hijacker – a rogue app/browser extension capable of taking over the user’s browser and using it for its own goals. Typically, hijackers like Tinyurl2.ru would show ads and cause page-redirects in order to popularize different sites.

The Tinyurl2.ru virus sometimes trigger page redirects to sites that may not be too safe or reliable.

It is important to protect your computer against ransomware, Trojan horses, spyware, worms and other forms of viruses since these malicious programs can cause all kinds of issues to your computer and the data on it. And in many cases you may not be able to revert the negative consequences of the infection. Such dangerous malware programs, however, are not the only software you should try to avoid landing on your computer.

The so-called browser hijackers (also called browser redirects) are one such category of software. While they are not as problematic or as dangerous as ransomware, Trojan horses or other malware infections, they can heavily disrupt your browsing activities with their frequent redirects to promotional sites and with their constant generation of pesky commercial messages, banners and ads. Additionally, your Chrome, Firefox, Edge or other browser may have its search engine, homepage, new-tab page or toolbar altered by the invasive application.

The changes to the browser are also a part of the hijacker’s advertising agenda and they typically get introduced in order to make the ads generation more effective. These modifications in your browser and the adverts that the hijacker is likely to swarm your screen with shouldn’t typically threaten the safety of your machine. Still, they are unwanted, normally very irritating and could still, potentially, sometimes trigger page redirects to sites that may not be too safe or reliable.

Therefore, we advise you to not keep such software on your computer if you want to be sure that you do not accidentally become exposed to potentially hazardous commercial messages in your browser. The most probable reason why you’ve actually come to this post is a hijacker called Tinyurl2.ru . At this point, you are probably looking for a way to uninstall this particular app from your browser and we can help you with that in the following removal guide manual.

The Tinyurl2.ru Virus

Usually, it’s the users themselves who allow applications like the Tinyurl2.ru virus inside their computers. The way they do that is by installing new programs and updates on their machines without customizing the setup and by using the default installation options.

If there is some added element in the installer (such as Tinyurl2.ru ), using the default setup configuration would typically install the bonus component. And if that component is a hijacker like Tinyurl2.ru or Poshukach , the unwanted application will be added to your browser and will start to swarm it with ads, alter its settings without your permission and, overall, nag you with its presence.

Other methods that are used to distribute hijackers are spam message campaigns and misleading requests from certain sites so that should be on the lookout for those as well. And, again, if you are currently struggling with the presence of Tinyurl2.ru on your computer, we can help you with this annoyance through the guide that you can find in this article. There is also a specialized tool for removing unwanted software in the guide which is also a great method of taking care of the hijacker irritation.

First, users should check their browser’s Extensions page to see if the browser hijacker has added any potentially unwanted extensions there.

  • To begin, open the hijacked browser and select the menu option (typically located top right).
  • Next, go to the Extensions/Add-ons section of the menu.
  • The third step is to look for extensions or add-ons that may be undesirable.
  • Disable and then remove anything associated with Tinyurl2.ru from the browser.
  • Check to see whether restarting the affected browser has resolved the issue.
  • If you’re using more than one browser on your computer, repeat the steps from above to all of them.

Some hijacking problems can be solved by following the quick instructions outlined above. However, if this is not your case, you will have to follow the more in-depth instructions in the guide below in order to completely clean your computer of all traces of Tinyurl2.ru.

Save this page with instructions as a bookmark in your browser in order to have quick access to it until you complete all the Tinyurl2.ru removal steps. Quitting your browser and rebooting your computer are both required in the next phase. Because of this, we believe you should bookmark this removal guide so that you can return to it quickly.

It’s also wise to boot the computer in Safe Mode (see instructions by clicking here) and then go to next step of the guide.

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

Open the Start Menu (Windows search bar) and type “task manager” in the search box. After that, go to the Processes tab and look for any processes with questionable names. The Tinyurl2.ru processes don’t have to use the same name as the hijacker, that’s why it’s important to keep an eye out for anything that’s consuming a lot of RAM or CPU power, or otherwise appears suspicious.

If you detect a process that doesn’t appear to be tied to your operating system or any of your trusted applications, right-click on the process you isolate as questionable and select Open File Location:

You can use the free scanner given below to check each file in that location for harmful code:

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.

This scanner is based on VirusTotal's API. By submitting data to it, you agree to their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to the sharing of your sample submission with the security community. Please do not submit files with personal information if you do not want them to be shared.

If a file that is scanned is detected as a threat, right-click on the process and select End Process Tree to stop the related process from running. After that, go back to the File Location Folder and delete the folder containing that file.

Attention! The system may become unstable if legitimate system processes are terminated. That is why it is important to do thorough research online and use a reputable scanner to discover whether or not a certain process is hazardous before terminating or deleting its files.

Disabling Tinyurl2.ru’s processes may not be enough in many circumstances. You should also eliminate any questionable software that might be linked to Tinyurl2.ru, as this could introduce the hijacker again or reinstall it after you’ve already removed it. To do this, go to the Control Panel, then open the Programs and Features and select Uninstall a Program.

After you go there, you should see a list of all the programs that have been installed on the machine. Uninstall any recently installed apps that may have contributed to the installation of Tinyurl2.ru on your system by selecting each one and clicking on the Uninstall option. Restart your computer after you’ve finished uninstalling the program.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

The Hosts file should be checked for modifications at this point. To do that, press Windows and R keys together, and paste the following line in the Run box:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

Hit Enter on the keyboard to complete this process. This will open a Notepad called Hosts on your computer.

Go to “Localhost” and see if any of the IPs listed there are questionable. We’ll have a look at them and inform you if they’re related to the browser hijacker and should be removed from the Hosts file if you post them in the comments below this post.

The next step involves resetting the DNS settings. To do that, open the first result from a search for “network connections” in the Start Menu’s search box.

Afterwards, right-click on the network adapter to which you’re now attached. Then, from the pop-up menu, select Properties.

Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the Properties window and click on the Properties button at the bottom.

Select the option to Obtain the DNS server address automatically. Next, click the Advanced button.

In the new window, select the DNS tab. Delete any rogue DNS server addresses entries you find there. Click the OK button to save your changes.

Here are detailed instructions on how to delete all traces and alterations that Tinyurl2.ru may have made to your browsers. If you’re using a browser that isn’t on this list, use your logic and follow the instructions as they’re likely to be similar, if not exactly the same.

All browsers should go through this process:

To begin, select Properties from the right-click menu of your browser’s shortcut icon.

Click on the Shortcut tab and erase everything written after “.exe”” in the Target box in the Properties window.

If you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome, you need to start each browser individually, click on its main menu icon (typically found top right) and select Manage Add-ons/More Tools. After that, find the Extensions sub-menu/tab and select it.

Carefully remove Tinyurl2.ru and any other potentially unwanted extensions/add-ons from the browser.

Also, don’t forget to check the Internet options and the homepage settings of each browser. If you detect a change in the homepage URL, you can delete it and add an address of your choice. Then, restart the browsers to see how they operate.

Attention! Using the Registry Editor, you can alter critical program and operating system settings and files. In order to avoid further damage to your system, you should only remove or change entries if you are confident that are connected to the browser hijacker.

Type regedit in the Windows search and open the Registry Editor app. Once inside, use CTRL and F to open a Find box where you can write the name of the browser hijacker. Click on Find Next to start a search in the registry and carefully delete any entries that match the hijacker’s name.

The search should be repeated as many times as necessary, and the matching files should be removed one by one until no more are detected.

After you’ve completed the above steps, use the left panel to go to the following directories:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory.
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

Look for suspicious-sounding folders (those with strange or excessively long names containing random characters) in each of these locations, and delete anything you suspect is connected to Tinyurl2.ru.

Please consider using a professional removal tool or a free online virus scanner if you’re not sure what to remove, so that you can prevent accidentally deleting system and program-related data.
