Topnewsfeeds.net Virus

Topnewsfeeds.net

Topnewsfeeds.net is an extension for Windows-compatible browsers that floods the browser it’s installed in with page-redirect links and ads. Topnewsfeeds.net also changes the search engine with a custom one of its own so that it can automatically redirect your searches.

The Topnewsfeeds.net virus introduces changes to the browser

If you think that Topnewsfeeds.net might currently be a part of your browser, then you have probably already noticed some rather unwanted changes and activities in the affected browsing program. We already mentioned the replacement of the search engine, but a similar thing might have also happened to the browser’s toolbar, its homepage address, and to the address of its new-tab page. All of these changes serve the purpose of getting you exposed to as many advertising materials as possible during your browsing sessions.

The Topnewsfeeds.net virus

The umbrella term that typically refers to apps like the Topnewsfeeds.net virus is “browser hijacker”, and Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and even Safari (for Mac browser hijackers) can get affected by this kind of software. Since most apps such the Topnewsfeeds.net virus do not fall under any virus category, a lot of times the antivirus installed on the user’s computer won’t flag a hijacker as something dangerous and would allow it to get installed in the browser.

Furthermore, in some cases, the line between a hijacker and an actually useful and legit browser extension is really thin, so it is oftentimes up to the individual’s opinion to determine whether or not a given app is closer to one or the other type of software.

Regardless, there are some characteristics belonging to Topnewsfeeds.net that have led us to the conclusion that this app can indeed be categorized as potentially unwanted software of the browser hijacker category. As we already mentioned, it introduces changes to the browser, which in and of themselves might not sound like a huge deal weren’t it for the fact that the changes are made automatically, without asking for user permission and, furthermore, they can’t be removed or reverted while the hijacker remains in the browser. Another problem with those changes is that they are mostly there to serve the advertising agenda of the hijacker and don’t really benefit the end-user in any conceivable way.

All things considered, even though Topnewsfeeds.net and  Top Captcha Solver are certainly no Ransomware, Trojan, or Spyware, their presence in the system could potentially cause some rather unpleasant browser-related disruptions that most users would rather not put up with.

A security warning

Despite the fact that most hijackers are mostly harmless as they aren’t intended to damage the system in which they are installed, we must warn you about the potential of getting exposed to more threatening forms of software such as Ransomware, Trojans, or Worms if there’s a hijacker present in your browser. It’s just not very safe for your computer to have random ads shown on its screen during browsing time as many of these adverts could be linked to unsafe web locations. That is the reason why it is almost always better to not allow the hijacker to tamper with your browser and to instead uninstall it as soon as possible – the removal guide you’ll see next can help you with this.
