A program, classified as a Browser hijacker is the topic of the article that you are about to read. The name of the program is TrackFinds 1.0 and many users are recently complaining about having it on their computers. The reason is, this application typically causes certain unpleasant and undesired changes to their browsers, which include the following:

  • Replacement of the default search engine with a new one
  • Change in the preferred homepage without the users’ approval.
  • Generation of intrusive and hard-to-remove banners, ads, pop-ups, and blinking boxes during every browsing session.
  • Sudden page-redirects and exposure to sites with a questionable reputation.
  • Sluggishness and unresponsiveness of the affected browser.

Typically, browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Opera are the ones that are targeted the most. However, even other browsers are not immune against the invasion of hijackers like TrackFinds 1.0. Luckily, such programs are not the most malicious ones and usually, apart from their irritating hijacking activities, do not cause harm to the system like a typical virus. In the next lines, you will learn how to deal with them and how to safely uninstall the unwanted changes, so stay with us and read on.

What can a program like TrackFinds 1.0 affect?

Usually, your default browser is the only software, which will be affected by the presence of a program like TrackFinds 1.0 on your system.  All the other programs and data in the computer are unlikely to be affected in any way. This, more or less makes the browser hijacker harmless, since it does not pose any direct risk to your machine. Compared to some real malware, such as Ransomware, Spyware, or Trojans, TrackFinds 1.0 won’t initiate an act of corruption, theft or encryption. However, its ad-generating and page-redirecting activities themselves may be quite unpleasant for you to decide to permanently remove them. There are also some other questionable and irritating facts about the hijackers, which also may cause a disturbance. For instance, such programs usually try to determine the users’ interests by keeping a track of their online behavior. Based on your recent searches, a program like TrackFinds 1.0 may try to redirect you to pages and ads, which you might be interested in. Because of this, the browser hijacker is oftentimes regarded as potentially unwanted software.

But sometimes, it may also expose you to content, which is inappropriate or misleading. You may often find yourself on sites, which you never intended to visit or be tricked to click on ads with unknown origin. Such actions may not only be very irritating but in certain cases may even cost you a nasty contamination with a real virus such as Ransomware. And trust us, you don’t want an encounter with such a malware in any form. That’s why, to stay on the safer side, we usually advise our readers to avoid interaction with the content of the hijacker and to remove programs like TrackFinds 1.0 from their system.

How to protect your PC from browser hijackers?

Programs with page-redirecting and ad-generating abilities can be found everywhere on the web. These programs are usually free and can be downloaded from various freeware sites, shareware platforms, free download links, ads and spam messages. Normally, they present themselves as some useful browser add-ons or components, which provide you with better browsing experience. However, their main goal is to aggressively advertise and to generate traffic and clicks to pay-per-click ads and the sites of their partners. Unfortunately, it is very easy to end up with such software on your PC because it usually gets installed as an additional component to some other attractive or intriguing software. This is a common programmers’ trick known as program bundling where numerous apps and optional components can be distributed and installed together. But, fortunately, every user has control over the setup they install, that’s why with little more attention they can easily disable the additional components they don’t want. The best options for that are the Advanced/Manual/Custom ones, which are usually available in every program bundle and can be selected and optimized accordingly.
